VOX Amplification has become a bit of a misnomer these days as the famous brand does a lot more than produce amplifiers.
And now that I have come to accept that I’ll probably never own an original mint condition VOX AC30, at least I can aspire to a good AC30 emulation – from the people who know more about the real deal than anyone else.
The ToneLab EX has more presets and effects than VOX’s previous line of Valvetronix modeling pedals and comes with 200 ready-to-play programs straight out of the box.
As with all Valvetronix Series, the ToneLab EX utilizes a real 12AX7 vacuum tube to accurately capture the tone quality of a tube-driven amplifier, a feature not yet available in other modeling units.
It has 33 amp models and simulations of 11 speaker cabinets. The cabinet and amp models can be used in any combination you want.

The effects offered with the ToneLab EX are:

- 15 classic stomp boxes effects
- 11 Modulation types
- 4 Delay types including Tap Tempo
- 3 Reverb types and Noise reduction
You can use up to 9 effects simultaneously if including Noise Reduction and Expression Pedal, the individual effects can be turned on and off using the foot switch controls.
As a bonus it includes a built in chromatic tuner which runs in both normal and strobe modes.
A personal monitoring system allows for backstage tweaking, editing and rehearsing – as well as programming – without the need for any additional amps or equipment. It also has a headphone jack to please your neighbors late at night.
Lastly, a USB port is provided, allowing a convenient single cable audio connection to a computer’s digital recording software.
