Magnetic Effects Electrochop

Magnetic Effects introduces the Electrochop, featuring super-choppy classic tremolo sounds with modern features and intuitive controls.

Magnetic Effects Electrochop

It is a modern take on a classic tremolo effect, building on the unique LFO section found on old Vox Repeat Percussion.

The now rare vintage Vox Repeat Percussion V809 is still mentioned from time to time when talking about tremolo effects. It produces a tremolo tone that has a percussive character to it, albeit the control options on the unit are very limited.

Magnetic Effects decided to create their own tremolo pedal with the same percussive characteristic, but with more tone shaping options and with a sound that will meet the demands of modern day recording and live playing. To do this, they designed a new audio circuit around the LFO of the original, with high input impedance and low output impedance. The result is a pedal with a classic sharp throb but with more volume and user-friendly features.

Controls on the pedal include Speed, Depth, Volume and a toggle switch that allows you to change the overall speed range from very slow to crazy fast. The speed knob controls the rate of which the tremolo repeats the effect, while the depth knob lets you adjust how deep the tremolo effect would be.

When disengaged, the pedal incorporates True Bypass switching, so as to avoid coloring your tone unnecessarily. Like regular stompbox pedals, the Electrochop is powered via a 9V DC adapter or a 9V battery.

If you are looking for a unique tremolo sound or you want to mimic the sound used by Spacemen 3, check this pedal out.

The Magnetic Effects Electrochop pedal is currently retailing for £89. For more information, you can visit Magnetic Effects.
