Described as being a “double Hush” this new pedal offers two independent channels of noise reduction in a compact unit designed to easily sit on top of a guitar amplifier, or in a rack drawer to save precious pedalboard space.

The original Hush circuit is still employed, allowing for up to 65dB of effective noise reduction for signal clean up. It was used to eliminate unwanted noise like cable/stompbox related hiss, excess feedback and unwanted noise that you get from pickups ad stage lighting.

Now Rocktron is improving on this circuit by having two independent instances of the original noise reduction circuit placed side by side in a single compact unit. Hush 2X is designed to accommodate the modern player’s gear which are ever growing in complexity both in setup and signal routing.

A specific example of how Hush 2X can be used is by having the first circuit connected after the pedalboard into the input of a guitar amplifier, while having the second circuit connected into the effects loop of the amp after your rackmount effects. This versatility also lets you apply more noise reduction on the distorted signal while reducing noise reduction on the clean non-distorted signal.

The possibilities are only limited by the two circuits, you can connect one channel before, and another after a single pedal or with two different pedals, or even chains of pedals. Since it is compact, it can also easily be applied to groups of rackmounted effects.

Controls are straightforward, having two selector switches that let you turn the two circuits on and off independently. Two Threshold knobs are also provided, giving you the ability to set the noise level threshold where the reduction circuit will do its work.

Specifications:

  • Maximum Input: 7dBu
  • Maximum Output: -1dBu
  • Input Impedance: 220kΩ
  • Output Impedance: 1kΩ
  • Current Consumption: 30mA
  • Power Requirement: 9V Alkaline Battery or DC OnTap Universal Power Supply (sold separately)
  • Dimensions: 5″ x 3.25″ x 2.5″; 125mm x 78mm x 61mm
  • Weight: 1.5lb; .7kg

Rocktron suggests, “For maximum noise reduction results, place the HUSH after your distortion and modulation effects (chorus, flanger, phaser, etc.) but before any delay or reverb effects. If you are already comfortable rolling back your guitar’s volume pot, simply turn your distortion and other effects in the chain before the HUSH to “ON”, roll back your volume pot, adjust the HUSH Threshold control to remove any hiss you hear, and you are ready to go!”

The new Rocktron Hush 2X is currently retailing for $249. For more information, visit Rocktron.
