This release is a follow up to the successful release of the Cry Baby Mini Wah, giving you realtime control over your volume without taking too much space, and without compromising durability and functionality.
Pedalboard space is quickly becoming a scarce resource among musicians, so manufacturers have been trying their best to provide smaller and smaller pedals. As expected, big name pedal builder Jim Dunlop is aware of this need, producing compact versions of their popular guitar effects pedals, and the Volume X Mini is the latest to come out from their miniaturized line of pedal lineup.
If like me, you’re familiar with traditional wah and volume pedals, the first thing that comes to mind when implementing them is how to get the their bulky profile to fit into our pedalboards and gig bags. The Volume X Mini is designed to change this impression by showing that you can have real-time foot control over your volume without having to hog too much pedalboard space.
Dunlop promises that the DVP4 Volume (X) Mini Pedal can do everything that that larger DVP3 model does, and it does all of it at half the price. First and foremost, it retains the same durable and well built lightweight aluminum chassis, so you can be sure that it can handle the same amount of use as the bigger ones.
An important feature of the Volume X Mini pedal is its low friction band-drive, which allows it to have a smooth range of motion even with its compact size. It is also designed to improve consistency and reliability, of which the original Dunlop Volume Pedal is known for. Other features that add to the stability and versatility of the pedal include the aggressive non-slip tread, and fully adjustable rocker tension.
Instead of stripping down the features to save on space, it looks like Dunlop was able to pack more features into this mini version, there’s the added internal pot, which lets you set the minimum values of the parameter you’re controlling with the expression pedal. Another nifty is the “Aux output”, of which the company says, “The AUX output combines tuner and expression functionality into one jack that can be toggled with a switch inside the pedal.“
If all the above mentioned features are not enough, there’s also a reverse function switch that’s placed on the inside of the pedal that lets you reverse the function of the pedal, from heel-down to toe-down depending on your preference.
Finally, the Dunlop DVP4 Volume X Mini Pedal is now available for preorder with a retail price of just under $120. It is expected to start shipping around May of this year. For more information, you can head over to Jim Dunlop.
