Wampler Ace Thirty
Wampler Pedals introduce the Ace Thirty, a stompbox with sounds based on the popular Vox AC-30 amplifier.
Following up on the American tones of the Tweed '57, Black '65 and Plexi-Drive pedals, Wampler now goes after classic British tone and starts with the Ace Thirty.
With big name artists like The Beatles, U2 and Brian May of Queen, this British sound has become an important part of the music we listen to. Now Wampler is paying tribute to this sound by packing it into a pedalboard friendly stompbox format.
Recreating this special sound is not something that was accomplished overnight, it took them three years to get as close as possible to the AC-30 sound. Finally they are satisfied with the performance and sound of the pedal and have scheduled it for global release at the end of this month.
Quoting Wampler: "What makes those amps so special? Well, first of all there is the “chime” - A beautifully clear and concise high response that cuts through anything. Then there is the overdrive. When you push it hard (with the boost switch activated) the tone creates a midrange hump that makes your tone enormous but with enough clarity to hear every string ring through. The Ace Thirty truly is a master class in tone."
The controls on the pedal are designed to mimic the behavior of the amp. It comes with basic EQ knobs for adjusting the bass and treble frequencies. Further tone shaping is provided by the Top Cut knob is provided for removing the same spectrum of frequencies as the amp it was based from. The Gain knob lets you adjust the amount of British dirt while the Volume and Boost Level controls round up the set of knobs on the face of the pedal.
Additional tone flexibility is provided by the Headroom switch, allowing for two gain stages. A trim pot on the inside of the pedal also lets you adjust the input gain, you can tweak this to match the pickups on your guitar. For example, if you have a guitar with "hot" pickups, reducing the trim pot will allow for that clean AC-30 tone.
Like other Wampler effect pedals, the Ace Thirty is housed in a sturdy metal chassis, features true bypass circuitry and are handmade in the USA. Pricing information will soon be available, you can head over to Wampler Pedals for more information.
