AmpliTube 3.0 and AmpliTube Studio

IK Multimedia upgrades AmpliTube and introduces the AmpliTube Studio, an in-app purchase that adds full DAW functionality.

AmpliTube Studio

AmpliTube Studio turns this popular amp modeling app into a digital audio workstation, complete with multi-track recording, audio editing, and effects.

The implication of having this upgrade means that your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch is now more than just a guitar/bass rig, it is now a powerful studio suite that you can use for recording, editing, mixing and producing music.

The new Studio section is an extension of the old Amplitube Recorder, turning it into a multi-track recorder and adding in mastering effects and audio editing. And it gets all this added features without complicating things, the GUI and gesture based control allows the app to retain its intuitive operation.

This in-app purchase add-on features a familiar DAW like GUI, having a timeline based display that shows your audio tracks as waveforms. It allows you to manipulate your recorded audio via a host of commands including cut, paste, delete, normalize, split, fade and crop.

Recording a track is as simple as it is on popular music production software, just arm and hit record. Once you captured multiple tracks, you can then align them with ease, thanks to the app’s combination of grid snapping and gesture based control. If you want to go deep, the app features sophisticated studio setups like effects send and master multi-effects, which you can use to produce the final mix.

With all this new features, AmpliTube still retains its amp modeling core, providing a wealth of amp models, stomp box effects and cabinet emulation that are easily accessible. Helping the app’s credibility are big name manufacturers like Ampeg, Soldano, Fender, Orange and many others that lend their name to the digital amp models. Artists like Slash, and the Hendrix company also have their own digital gear available.

On AmpliTube 3.0, IK Multimedia added four new free gear models for iRig HD users. It includes the X-Flanger and Wharmonator Whammy pedals, along with the Metal 150 and Metal W amps. Their collection of amp, effects and cabinet models continue to grow.

Another cool feature of the upgraded AmpliTube is its built-in Loop Drummer. It will let you build drum patterns via “building blocks” that include intros, fills, main and alternate rhythms, and outros. The samples included were chosen so that the Loop Drummer can cover most musical styles. The app also introduces a better rehearsal tool, which allows you to load songs and change pitch/tempo for you to practice along. It even has a nifty “No Voice” center-cancel feature that mutes center panned vocals so you can hear the instruments better.

AmpliTube 3.0 is a free update for all previous users and is now available as a free (basic features) or paid (more features) version on the AppStore. New users can get the paid retails for $19.99. You can purchase the new AmpliTube Studio within the app for $9.99(iPhone) and $14.99(iPad).
