What's Hot With Jazz Guitar: Frank Potenza
This week I have chosen to feature Los Angeles Guitarist Frank Potenza. Frank has several CDs of his own and also played on the '3 Guitars' CD (with Pat Kelley and John Stowell) that I did a column some time back Frank Potenza is yet another fine Los Angeles guitar player -- there are a LOT of good ones here in LA. Frank has some sound and video clips on his website. Do check him out.
Online Bio
Azica recording artist and educator Frank Potenza is a protege of the late Joe Pass and an active educator, composer, and performer with seven solo albums to his credit. In addition to his extensive freelancerecording experience, he has performed in concert with Dizzy Gillespie, George Van Eps, Joe Pass, Bud Shank, Mose Allison, James Moody, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Jack McDuff, Red Holloway, and many others.
Frank toured and recorded as a member of the Gene Harris Quartet from 1996 through 1999 and is a featured soloist on Alley Cats, Gene's last recording for Concord Records. He currently leads his own groups in support of his latest Azica releases. His current release is a duo project with pianist Shelly Berg entitled First Takes.
He is a Professor and Chair of the Studio/Jazz Guitar Faculty at the Flora L. Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California. He holds a Bachelors degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts, and a Master of Arts degree from California State University, Los Angeles.

Doc Dosco is a jazz guitarist, composer and audio consultant living in Los Angeles, CA. His website is located at http://www.docdosco.com, where you can find more information on the 'What's Hot with Jazz Guitar' columns, audio clips of Doc's playing, and many additional features. Doc now endorses Peerless Guitars and has the website Jazz Guitar Zone to help promote Peerless jazz guitars in the US. He also endorses the new Pignose Valve Tube Amps -- great for jazz (and anything else!)
