A JUMPIN' SOMETHIN' Chip Wilson's 1999 release A Jumpin' Somethin' earned a nomination in Offbeat Magazine's "Best of the Beat" Awards for "Best Traditional Jazz CD by a Louisiana Artist", along with Wynton Marsalis and Kermit Ruffins. "...well arranged originals from a talented musician who fits well into the lineage of New Orleans music." John Radanovich, offBEAT Magazine The CD features eleven Wilson originals, with guest appearances from Charles Neville (Neville Bros.), Mem Shannon (Schanachie, Rykodisc), Michael Ray (Sun Ra, Kool and The Gang, Cosmic Krewe), and Tony Green (Orleans Records). Steve Goodson supplies some great tenor sax attitude and his characteristic big tone (www.saxgourmet.com) , and bassist Alvin Young ties the sound together from the low end with his lyrical lines and swinging pulse. "...one of 1999's pleasant surprises..." Scott Jordan, Gambit Weekly The new CD, Somebody Said Somethin', slated for a Fall 2000 release, features more of the jazz/blues/swing sound that helped A Jumpin' Somethin' achieve critical recognition. The 14 Wilson originals also include three Latin influenced numbers, a Caribbean style tune, a vocal waltz ("'The Dancer's Waltz' may be my favorite cut on the record", says Chip), a pop tune featuring Erving Charles from the Fats Domino Band on bass, and a remake of Al Johnson's "Carnival Time". "We were recording with Mardi Gras parades going by a few blocks away...it just seemed right." Reed player Ryan Burrage is helping with horn arrangements. Chip has brought back Chris Polachek (Say Yes Productions) to help with production and engineering, along with Jimmy Ford (Jimmy Ford Clinic) and his great sounding Soundtech 2-inch tape machine. A 6 song cassette recorded in 1995, Regional Dispute, is also available. "Wilson singing his own stuff in a sweet high tenor with some rich instrumental backup...and a funky southern feel..." Robert Resnik, Seven Days.
