YOUNG AND DUMB by Tim Sharkey This fits in the category of young and dumb... When I was about 12 or 13, I had an inexpensive Decca brand classical guitar that I had gotten from my parents as a gift. One fine day, I decided that I was tired of the soft sound of the nylon strings, and tired of having to tie all those stupid knots when changing them. So, I went and got a set of bronze wound steel strings and put them on the Decca. What a revelation! Not only did I get the sharper, brighter sound of the steel strings, I didn't have to fumble with tying them on! Just slide the string through until the bead stops it, and VOILA! The bridge lasted about three weeks. It came flying off in the middle of a song I was playing for my parents. I had to buy my own guitar the next time... by Tim Sharkey of Kearney, NE, USA |
