LEARNING TO PLAY GUITAR
By Robert Lee Johnson "The Guitar Man"
Learning to play the Guitar 1 -- The Basics Three Part Series... first up: Learning to play the Guitar 1 - The Never Ending Journey Learning to play the Guitar is a lifetime job. It’s a journey where you never reach the end of the trip, not if you want to be a good Guitar player. However many points along the way are wonderful places to be, and you will be glad you went on your journey to learn the Guitar. When you arrive at the point of your journey where you can play elementary music it’s a great reward. Then you can go on to more complex music. And if you continue your journey to develop your Guitar Playing skills to a higher degree, you can arrive at a point in your journey where you are very gratified with your Music and Guitar Playing. However you will still want to continue the journey and become a better Guitar player. If you reach that point in your journey where you can play the notes of elementary music, but you cannot play the notes in time, in meter, then your Guitar learning journey is going to be a very short trip, and not much fun. One can only move ahead in music if they learn the basics. Part of the basics is a sense of time and meter. Many people who take Guitar Lessons never reach the point of having a sense of time and meter. This is indeed sad for their Guitar Journey can really go no further. Only when a musician has a sense of time and meter, and has developed the motor skills to play the Guitar in time and meter, to play smooth music, music that is really music, not just notes played on the Guitar, can a person continue one of the most enjoyable journeys they can take in life. The journey starts with lessons from hopefully a good teacher. If you combine the lessons with a computer aided Guitar program, or a good playalong Tape or CD, you can move ahead fast, if you do much practice. It would be great if one could find a Guitar Teacher that used a Computer Aided Teaching Program for that would be the best of all teaching methods since the student would play with a band from the word go, therefore getting a sense of time, meter, and to some degree harmony. However, I’m sure you would be hard put to find any Guitar Teacher using a computer aided Guitar Instructional Program at this time. You might be hard put to find a Guitar Teacher who owns a computer. The music education industry is far behind when it comes to using the high tech educational resources that are available to create the best Guitar Learning Methods. No matter how far behind the Music Education people might be at this time in using the resources of the computer to teach, the human teacher is still best for most people when someone is learning from the word go. The teacher can show you, and the human interaction is there to convey how to get started and learn the basics of playing the Guitar. Combine a living Teacher, a human, and a computer aided Guitar Instructional Program and you have a winning combination. Continue in...
