Jay Graydon - guitar Available at http://www.cdstreet.com where you may also enjoy 2 sound clips. Jay Graydon is a Los Angeles top songwriter, guitarist, producer, arranger, engineer, and more. He is a living legend in the music industry and a name that equals music quality with a capital Q - twice Grammy awarded and 12 times nominated. The Grammy awards are for co-writing - best rhythm & blues songs - AFTER THE LOVE HAS GONE (1979 - a huge hit with Earth, Wind & Fire) and TURN YOUR LOVE AROUND (1982 - a hit with George Benson and also used these days sampled in new productions).
The Grammy Nominations are as follows:
Since Jay Graydon is awarded and nominated in so many categories over the years he probably holds the record of being the most versatile nominee in Grammy history. As an artist Jay Graydon has recorded three pop albums over the years - AIRPLAY with David Foster, PLANET 3 and AIRPLAY FOR THE PLANET. He has also released a surf album - RAKE & THE SURFTONES - just for fun, recorded together with a host of studio musician friends. This current BEBOP album is a musical manifesto of the versatility of this multi-talented artist. Among the many acknowledgements Jay Graydon has received over the years, N.A.R.A.S. - the Grammy board - once nominated him as Studio Guitarist of the Year. Jay was e.g. the soloist Grammy awarded Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan chose for the legendary guitar solo on PEG on the album Aja. He has worked with literally everyone in the music biz as a record producer/songwriter/guitarist. He has produced several top artists, such as Air Supply, George Benson, Al Jarreau, DeBarge, El DeBarge, Sheena Easton, Art Garfunkel, Manhattan Transfer, Johnny Mathis, Patti LaBelle, Lou Rawls, Kenny Rogers and Dionne Warwick, just to name a few, and many of the more than 200 songs he has written are included on Gold and Platinum selling albums. Jay is also working on a series of books on recording techniques together with Craig Anderton - well known writer of recording technique best sellers, columns in music magazines and gear manuals. An extensive, extremely comprehensive and well written article on how to succeed in bass recording land, "Bass Meets The Studio" excerpted from one of the coming books in the series and published in BASS PLAYER magazine of November 1998, was nominated for the 1999 Maggie Award in the category - "Best How-To Article in a Consumer Magazine." Since the market for recording gear is such a fast growing and vast area, it is hard for both beginners as well as the pros to keep track of all the new stuff, let alone to be able to find the gems among the gravel. On account of Jay's very long experience as a musician as well as being a top rated Grammy nominated recording engineer, he has very often been called in as a consultant/beta tester of musical equipment and recording gear, the most recent project being the Alesis ADAT M20 digital pro recorder. The BEBOP album came about while beta testing this recorder. More info on Jay Graydon can be found on his official web site. |
