ROSIE FLORES Rosie Flores was born in San Antonio, Texas. She apparently started recording at the age of six. Her father noticed she liked singing, so he started recording her on a two-track reel-to-reel tape recorder. Her 1995 CD, "Rockabilly Filly" has one of those actual recordings of Rosie performing an old standard tune called "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down" when she was just 7 yrs. old. When Rosie was 12 years, old her family left Texas and moved to San Diego, California. Rosie witnessed the emergence of California's own folk, surf rock and blues scene. At age 16, Rosie formed, " Penelope's Children," a tight outfit of four talented girls. They hit the road on several east and west tours across America opening for many groups such as "The Turtles". 1978 saw Rosie form "Rosie & The Screamers", whose repertoire included a blend of hard-core country, rockabilly & rock 'n' roll type songs. Following the departure of that project in 1983, Rosie joined, 'The Screaming Sirens' - her second all-girl band. The 'Cow Punk' band took an energetic approach to country with heavy hillbilly riffs combined with awesome lead guitar work from Rosie. The popularity of the band grew which prompted a 1987 movie deal titled 'The Running Kind'. In 1987, Rosie signed with Warner Bros/Reprise Records and released her debut solo LP titled 'Rosie Flores'. The recording was produced by Pete Anderson producer/guitarist for Dwight Yoakam. It included an awesome original version of 'Heartbreak Train'. The single 'Crying Over You', ascended to #51. Warner shelved plans for a follow-up album. Rosie released her second solo album and first CD 'After The Farm'. The third LP 'Once More w/ Feeling' demonstrated Rosie's unique guitar style which urged music magazines such as "Musician," "Guitar Player," and "Guitar World" to profile Rosie's technique & influences. Her fourth album titled 'Rockabilly Filly' was released in 1995. It features duets with Wanda Jackson along with Janis Martin. Also, highlighted on the record are Albert Lee along with Greg Leisz, K.D. Lang, Matthew Sweet, Russell Scott, John Herron and T. K. Smith. 'Dance Hall Dreams', Rosie's fourth CD, was recorded live in her hometown of San Antonio Texas (Cibolo Creek Country Club) and later overdubbed in Nashville.
