STEEL GUITAR CONVENTION
The Steel Guitar Convention
The Steel Guitar Conventions starts on Thursday August 29th and runs Sunday September 1st. The Convention will be held in Saint Louis at The Millennium Hotel & Four Points Sheraton Hotel 200 S. 4th Street St. Louis, MO (314) 241-9500. DeWitt Scott is the one who put this wonderful show together, and he did it over 30 years ago. The Steel Guitar Convention has been packed wall to wall every year for more than 30 years. Tens of thousands of Steel Guitar Players and Music Lovers from all over the world attend the International Steel Guitar Convention in Saint Louis every year. On Friday the Steel Guitars in Concert will feature Both Buddy Emmons and Doug Jernigan. Both of these Pedal Steel Guitar Players are legends in music, and both have been inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. Buddy Emmons came to Nashville and played Steel with Little Jimmy Dickens in the 50s. Buddy then teamed up with Shot Jackson and founded the Shobud Pedal Steel Guitar Company. Most every good Steel Guitar Player Played a Pedal Steel by the 1960s. The Pedal Steel Guitar has dominated for many years. But here of late the Lap Steel and the Slide Dobro have made a come back. The Dobro is in it’s Golden Period now with many Guitar Players owning one of these wonderful instruments. Many Pedal Steel Guitar Players own Hand Made Dobros. Beard Guitar tells me that Buddy Emmons owns a hand crafted Beard Resonator Guitar. Doug Jernigan plays some great Blues Slide Dobro. The two biggest stars of the Steel Guitars in Concert, Buddy Emmons and Doug Jernigan are phenomenal musicians who play Country, Blues, and the most complex Jazz. Buddy Emmons was the first Country Steel Guitar Player who recorded Jazz. Buddy showed the world what a great Jazz Instrument the Pedal Steel Guitar is. Doug Jernigan Recorded some great Jazz in the late 60s. And Doug Jernigan played a Fiddle Tune, "Orange Blossom Special." Doug and Buddy have set a standard for all Steel Guitar Players to meet. Both Steel Guitar Players are to the Genius Level of music. Buddy and Doug have played out of Nashville most of their lives. Both Steel Guitar players have toured with the biggest names in Country Music, and they have backed up the Country Stars on Recordings.

You can find the entire four day schedule at this web site. Slide Dobro Legend Mike Auldridge will be appearing on Sunday. Mike Auldridge has played on many recording sessions and with the most famous Bluegrass band. He is a legend in Dobro Circles. Mike Auldridge offers courses in Slide Dobro on CD and on Video Tape. Mike has many Dobro CDs to his credit and all his CDs sell quite well for he is a genius on Slide Dobro. Mike also plays Lap Steel and pedal steel guitar, but he is primarily known for his Dobro Playing. If you love Dobro, don’t miss seeing Mike Auldridge in Person at the Steel Guitar Convention on Sunday September 1st. There are many more great Steel Players scheduled, too many to list in this article. There is always jamming after the shows. Everyone loves the fellowship of the Steel Guitar Players. Non Steel Players get to hear some really great music in both the shows and in the Jams. The event is a wonderful time for those who love Steel Guitar Music. There will be over 65 Vendors selling Steel Guitars, Dobros, other instruments plus instructional methods and related products. Anything you could possibly want in the line of Steel Guitar will be on sale at the Convention. There will be at least two hand makers of Dobros at the conventions selling their wonderful instruments. Steel Guitar Instructional Courses will be offered at the show by those who have the most expertise in the subject. And there will be Steel Guitar Instructional material to take home and work with. So it’s four days of fun and music at the Steel Guitar Convention, starting on Thursday August 29 and running through Sunday September 1st. Anyone who is interested in Steel Guitar should be at the Show and Convention.
