Quicktime guitar lessons

Hi fellow twanger, I hope all is well, that you are playing daily and that your finger tips are nicely calloused. There's no doubt about it, daily practice is the only way to progress as a player -- it keeps the fingers nimble and gives the brain one more chance to lock in the mysterious layout of the fretboard.

The big news for me is that I recently bought a digital video camera and I've begun a new long term project: mini guitar lessons in Quicktime format. I have set up my office so that I can think of a lesson, perform it for the camera which is fixed on a tripod next to me, firewire it into my iMac, edit it and convert it to Quicktime, load it up on the Internet, create an html page with TAB of the lesson and a description of what I'm doing -- all in an hour or so.

I've had some great feedback on the results from my own mailing list, which is encouraging me to continue building an archive.

To keep them manageable I've limited them to about 30 seconds which converts to about 1.5 Mb to download. I use Quicktime because the compression is so good in that format and most of us already have it on our computers. If you don't, it's readily available for all platforms and it's free. The link to download it is on each lesson page.

All demonstrate in some form or another the PlaneTalk technique for tracking the music on the fretboard, all reinforce the idea that the "chord of the moment" is boss, all come with tablature of the lesson and a bar by bar description of what I'm playing and how I'm thinking.
