WHO ARE YOU?

Last week we asked you to offer some details about yourselves. This week we start publishing some of your submissions. Enjoy!

Artist: Tolo Marton

Summary: Guitar-oriented classic rock with an ear for bluesy melody

Your own personal musical highlight?: I was the winner (in the senior category) of the "JIMI HENDRIX ELECTRIC GUITAR COMPETITION" held by the Hendrix Family in Seattle in 1998. They were looking for talented guitarists with fantasy and creativity. I performed a rendition of "Red house" and my original composition "Alpine Valley". I am an italian musician and this experience really has been the highlight of my carrer. Also, in many years spent in the music, I had chances to play with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce and recently with Deep Purple's drummer Ian Paice, who is special guest in my latest double live album "Dal Vero". More about this CD on http://www.bluesrockers.ws/tolomarton.html

What equipment do you use?: I use mostly Fender Stratocaster, which I used since 1970. I plug into a Super reverb amp. My effects are a mxr distortion 2, various type of Leslie Vibrato effects.

What sound do you go for?: It term of guitar sound, I am looking for a sound that allows me to do a lot of dynamics, I use a lot my hands to achieve different sounds, mostly "vocal" sounds. So my equipment needs to react well to how I play or pick the strings or how I manipulate the volume and tone controls of the guitar. I use a hard thumb pick and fingers. I also like to have a "band" sound, I love to jam and interact with the musicians.

Name three influences: Rory Gallagher, Nils Lofgren and 60s music (all types).

What's your favorite album and why?: I don't have a favourite album. My interests are wide.

What's the worst album you've ever heard and why?: There is no a worst album, the music that I don't like may be liked by someone else.

You get to record with any musicians in the world. Name them & why? I would have liked to have a chance to play with Miles Davis once, because he had the unique attitude to make the musicians sound better than how they do when they play by themselves.

How would you feel if you found your music on a P2P network such as Kazaa? At first I feel happy that somebody consider my music worth of their interest, but then I would like them to try to get in touch with me to try to by the real records, because I love to be a musician and I play for people, but at the same time this is also my job.
