WHO ARE YOU? Your acts name: The JILL SHARPE Band Tell us about yourself: Well you already have the band's name. And what we're about is this........I play Real American Music. From heavy, heavy blues, to swing, alternative, country. Johnny Cash to Ella, X (The Band) to Walter Trout. I play about things that have really happened to me. They say in one breath I sound like Ella when she was 21, then someone will say, God, you sound just like Janis, then someone else will say "Wow, I didn't know you were white". I'm always compared to Bonnie (but I think it's because we both play guitar) but I have the nickname "Jilly Hendrix". They can't figure out if I'm from LA or Memphis. Just a hard hard guitarist with a killer voice. The name they use in the press every single time is.................Sultry. Guess that's about it.
What equipment do you use?: Fender, Fender, Fender. Ain't nothin like a Fender. I keep trying to get people to sponsor me, but they never want to talk to me because they don't know me. Well F' 'em. I'll stick with what works everywhere I go. Sounded good while on tour with Joe Houston in a couple o' countries. LOL! Would you ever smash your guitar onstage? Please explain why: I did it to my first guitar. God, I miss that old silvertone, the amplified case and all. What a dumb little kid! (I was 15) You get offered the opportunity to use one of your songs in a commercial. Would you do it and why? Yes - For the money...............Duh! (Unless it was for a depends commercial........ok....well.....I'd consider that too). What's your next musical move? I'm starting to reherse for the next CD. Still bluesy, but more alternative and a little different sound this time. Playing live like always. Then I'm having a friend produce a big band swing CD for me. Old School........Got to though a little twist into the mix. Just for a minute I'll put down the guitar and let the voice carry me to back Billie's Days. NEXT >>> LIVEAXE >>> |
