BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

Bruce Springsteen has captured media attention in recent times with his release of 'The Rising' album, as well as his defence of The Dixie Chicks. So let's quickly go through some Springsteen factoids.

1. Bruce's first band was called The Rogues.
2. 'Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.' was released in 1973. It flopped. But 'Blinded By The Light', a track off the album, was a 1977 hit for Mannfred Mann.
3. Bruce trespassed onto Graceland in 1976. Elvis' bodyguards threw him out.
4. Springsteen originally wrote 'Hungry Heart' for The Ramones. He kept it.
5. Despite it's critical stance, 'Born In The USA' was targeted by Ronald Reagan and Chrysler for their own purposes.
6. When the E Street band broke up, each member received a $2 million bonus.
7. Sprinsteen has supported human rights causes as well as non-nuclear energy initiatives.
8. He released a five-album live collection to thwart bootleggers.
9. 'Streets of Philadelphia' was a Top Ten hit, won an Academy award and several Grammys.
10. The first record he bought was 'Jailhouse Rock'.
