WHO ARE YOU?
Your acts name: "doctor bow" aka Jonathan Wilson
Please tell us about one of your songs:
"Vivaldini Impromptu". Basicly it is an off the cuff improvisation performed on my BOWED guitar. It is the result of an '80's guitar noodler/shredder who listened to Vivaldi and Paganini and was obsessed with the idea of having a bowable guitar. This que was recorded in a tiny bathroom of a Chatsworth, Ca. ("Electric Pottyland Studios"(?) circa 1998.
What equipment do you use?:
Currently I play a TogaMan GuitarViol which I designed and built. (I also custom build these babys-See bowedguitar.com). I use a cheap Glasser 1/4 size violin bow, Dark rosin in the winter, light rosin in the summer. When plucking, I mostly use fingers and no plectrum---most of the time. I play through a Fender Acoustasonic Jr amp, and a custom flight case pedal board made by Pedalracks.com. It is loaded with a Boss TU2 tuner, Zoom 507 reverb (throwing it away soon), Line 6 Dl4 set to "looping mode". Raven Labs active direct (the green one).
Has the Internet eroded the power of major labels? Why?
Yes. It has empowered independent musicians to connect with a world-wide audience. A kid can record a CD, package himself and launch a website. The consumer can now choose from a lot of (good and bad) music that labels would not touch. The consumer no longer has to have the "commercial" label/radio filter to sift through. They can decide for themselves what they want to listen to.
Indie versus Major labels?Which would you rather sign to and why?
Most likely Indie. A major would not share my musical vision and would rather have an organ grinding monkey anyway. I could be wrong.
What's your next musical move?
To gather some inspired musical moments to a CD and make them available to my listeners. Time and mood may affect just how soon this happens. Now, If SADE wanted some cool stuff on her next album track......that may get my attention.
