GUITAR MAN ACOUSTIC GUITAR TIPS Acoustic Day-to-Day Resource http://www.guitartips.addr.com Can I take every other string off of my 12 string guitar and make it into a 6 string? Paul Counting from high to low, if you remove strings # 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, & 12, the remaining strings would leave you with a 6 sting guitar. This 6 string guitar will be a little different however. The neck will be wider than usual for a 6 string and the strings will not be centered on the fret board. Because of the reduced pull of the strings, you may need to relax your truss rod a little.
