by Doc Dosco

This week we feature Canadian jazz guitarist Joey Goldstein. He is a fine player and has lots of MP3s posted so be sure to give a listen.

Online Bio:

Guitarist/Composer Joey Goldstein has been performing his original jazz compositions in and around the Toronto area since the early 80's.

In 1988 The Joey Goldstein Band (consisting of Michael Farquharson on bass, Boko Suzuki on keyboards and Mark Kelso on drums) recorded an album entitled "Time's Square". Although it was only released on cassette, this recording received substantial airplay on many Canadian and US mainstream and campus radio stations including:

KUNV-FM (University of Nevada in Las Vegas), CFNY-FM (The Hight of Jazz, hosted by David Hight), CHUM-FM (After Hours, hosted by Bob McBride), The Jazz Report (Bill King's nationally syndicated FM show), Jazz Inspiration (Arnie Larson's nationally syndicated FM show) and WEBR-AM in Buffalo (Jazz In The Night-Time).

In late 1993 Joey released his first CD independently, entitled Joey Goldstein & Friends - A Strange Little Tune. This album is actually a partial combination of two separate projects (12 tracks in all totalling almost 75 minutes of music) and contains four tracks from "Time's Square" along with eight newer pieces. A Strange Little Tune features the talents of Doug Riley and Boko Suzuki on keyboards, Vito Rezza and Mark Kelso on drums, Michael Farquharson on bass and Rob Bonisolo on tenor saxophone.
