JOEY RAMONE PLACE If you're ever in New York, head to the corner of Bowery and Second Street. It's now Joey Ramone Place! Fans and friends got together for the unveiling of the new street sign, talking about old times and paying tribute to the singer. Those in attendance included Tommy Ramone, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads, The Dictators frontman Handsome Dick Manitoba and Plasmatics guitarist Richie Stotts. "Joey was a true New Yorker," said bandmate Marky Ramone. "This honor today conveys what a monolith of talent he was." "So New York has Charlie Parker Place, Herman Melville Square, Edgar Allan Poe Street, Joe DiMaggio Highway ... and now Joey Ramone Place." said City Councilman Alan Gerson. The Ramones frontman died from cancer in 2001 aged 49. The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Links: |
