KIRK'S COLUMN
The I-IV-V chords and the melodies within. Here is yet another "I-IV-V chords" lesson. I keep using these chords because they are such a strong structure of Western music. You can tell a complete musical story very quickly using these chords -- the I sets the scene, the tonality, the IV confirms it, the V gets your ear ready to go home again, back to the I. This lesson, hopefully, will demonstrate the strength of thinking "chords" rather then "scales" when looking for melodic lines.
