WARRANT'S ERIK TURNER INTERVIEWED By Dave Roberts extremeguitars.com In this issue, we are fortunate enough to have WARRANT's Erik Turner take time out of his hectic schedule to join us. As you will read, Erik is not only a great guitarist, but also a very funny guy and an all around nice guy; inviting Extreme Guitars to his WARRANT gig in Detroit. Be sure to check out WARRANT as they tour this summer with Whitesnake & Winger. My name is: Erik Turner / A.K.A. MC E-Rock Myself described in 5 words: Beautiful, Smart, Talented, Great, Modest. My current job is: Practicing Golf, and I play guitar in Warrant. My hometown is: Omaha, NB. My current album or project is: Writing songs for porn movies. Former band(s): None. My guitar influences growing up were: Jimmy Page. The guitars I use are: GMP www.GMPguitars.com The strings and tunings I use are: Dean Markley, We tune a half step down. My current rig setup consists of: 2 1979 100 watt Marshall heads, x-wire wireless, hush noise reduction. 4 line 6 4x12 cabinets. The greatest invention for guitars is: Electricity. My normal songwriting process: 3 Martinis. My Favorite WARRANT solo is: Solo section of So Damn Pretty, sounds like 3 different guitar players?. My Favorite WARRANT song is: All of them.....& Uncle Toms Cabin. My Career highlight is: Still touring after 18 years. My most embarrassing moment on stage: Don't have one yet. Other than my guitar, the one piece of my gear that I cannot live without is: My ear plugs. The first song I mastered on guitar was: Black Dog. My first guitar was: Hondo Les Paul. If I am only sure of one thing in life, it's... record companies are loyal to there artist and care about career development. The one ritual I always perform prior to going onstage is: Take a piss before I go on. The exact moment I knew I would pursue a career in music was: Aerosmith's first album. The one thing most fans don't know about me is: I'm not gay. The best advice I could give beginning guitarists is: Sex, Booze and Practice your rock n roll. Oh, and drop out of school. The CD(s) I'm listening to right now is: Marilyn Manson, Audio Slave, Jani Lane - Back Down to One. My 3 all-time favorite albums are: The Zeppelin catalog. Best gig: The American Music Awards, air guitar to track, Jani had live vocals. Favorite junk food: Sushi. My biggest pet peeve is: Bad coffee and Green fees. The word or catch phrase I say way too much is: "How much is this?" The hardest part of my job: The deli trays. The first thing I do when I come home from touring is: Take a shower. Previous day job(s): Dog Washer tech. Right after this interview I'm going to: Go back to bed. I couldn't imagine being on the road without: Gas Stations. If I wasn't doing the musician thing, I could really see myself working as: A website designer. My favorite movie ever: Toy Story 3. My mission in life: Be a great dad. My guilty pleasure: is illegal in some states. My first band was: in a garage in OC, CA. My next major step is: to the bathroom. The greatest contribution guitars have brought into my life is A lot of good times. Points of Interest: (Bio Courtesy of ErikTurner.net) * Erik Turner founded WARRANT in 1984. * In 1988 things started to really take off for WARRANT as Band records song for A&M Records, appearing on the Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure soundtrack, signed to recording deal with Columbia Records, Band begins recording DRFSR in L.A. and WARRANT embarks on first national tour with Brittany Fox. Shortly thereafter Columbia releases Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich. DRFSR goes Gold. * Other than touring with Brittany Fox, WARRANT has toured with many other great rockers including Paul Stanley, Motley Crue, Poison, Queensryche, Cinderella, Poison, Kingdome Come, David Lee Roth, Iron Maiden, Lynch Mob (our good friends) * Columbia releases Cherry Pie which ships Gold! * Cherry Pie and I Saw Red hit the Top-Ten. The album reaches # 7, selling 2.7 Million copies.
