KIRK'S COLUMN

Hi fellow twanger.

The big news is that I've re-opened my site 'Guitar for Beginners dot Com' to be totally free again, the way it started out years ago. I have completely re-vamped the look and layout of the site, and I will be adding content regularly to make it the best plain English teaching site out there.

This week's lesson is a nifty little country style picking routine, almost a banjo kind of feel, which instantly gives any chord progression a down-home flavor. The chord pattern is | C . . . | F . C . | G . . . | C . . . | and each of the chords uses a little hammer on from the 2 to the 3. The combination of the pattern and the hammer-ons gives it the lilt.

Go to http://www.guitarforbeginners.com and look for the 'Lesson of the Week' link.

I've had some nice feedback for the last lesson I posted at my PlaneTalk site, so here is that link again for anyone who missed it and would like to know more about the I-IV-V chords and the Blues within.

PlaneTalk (as if you didn't already know), reveals the 'trick' to seeing the entire fretboard as familiar territory, instead of just the first few frets... no more mystery. The book and its revealing Guitar Slide Rule goes out on a daily basis to all parts of the World, and will soon be available in Spanish, thanks to an enthusiastic twanger in Spain who bought it and translated it all for me. I have been very busy changing all the speech balloons (part of it is a comic strip) from English to Spanish.

It can also be bought as a PDF file which you can download immediately. The first 15 pages can be read here: http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com/pdf.shtml

All the best, happy twanging!

Kirk
