GUITARISTS AT THE 2004 GRAMMYS Guitarist "Doc" Watson was given a Lifetime Achievement Grammy. Watson is regarded as being a huge influence in the country and bluegrass music genres. He won a Grammy in 1973 for the recording 'Two Days in November'. More information on Doc can be found here. Guitarist Ry Cooder won two awards for the recordings he made with Cuban music greats Ibrahim Ferrar and Manuel Galban. President Clinton intervened on his final day in office to arrange Cooder's last visa to Cuba so the albums could be made. Cooder, who won a Grammy for best pop instrumental album, savaged the U.S. government's decision to invoke Executive Order 212 and deny visa to 45 Cuban musicians. "It's significant because it's the first time [the government] has used this in this blanket way, including on those who have been coming here," he said. "Ibrahim Ferrer has come here five times. It's not like he's unknown to the government." George Harrison also won a Grammy for Pop Instrumental Performance with "Marwa Blues".
