KIRK'S COLUMN Slide in dropped D Hello from a stinking hot Tamborine Mountain. We've been suffering through body temperature heat for days on end. We envy you Northern Hemispherers! This week I've put together a lesson in dropped D slide finger style guitar. It may not be mainstream, but boy is it fun! It's a 12 bar blues with a difference. Most slide is played in open tunings, for the very good reason that when you tune to a chord, all the notes line up across the fretboard so that your slide can play them at once. My problem with that was that I had to relearn the layout of my fretboard every time I tried a new open tuning, and that was too much for my brain to handle. Just learning the layout in standard tuning was enough for me, so I settled on what is, in my opinion, the best of both worlds: Dropped D. Go to the lesson: http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com and follow the "Guitar lessons" link. Guitar for Beginners dot Com is powering away with a new fingerstyle lesson of a tune we all know and love. That's at the "Lessons" page at http://www.guitarforbeginners.com More next week, happy twanging, |
