KIRK'S COLUMN

Hello once again, fellow twang enthusiast.

A cyclone prevented me from delivering last week's article. This neck of the woods was severely dumped on Saturday night, the first night in a long time I had a gig. It peaked at about 2AM, the time I drove home. It was a wild ride, lemme tellya! Trees down, wires down, lashing rain, land slides, rock falls, swollen creeks, gale force winds. There were no other cars on the road ... just the idiot twanger.

I can't remember the excuse for the week before, but I've got two lessons this week to make up for the lapse.

One is at Guitar for Beginners. It's a movie/tab/midi lesson of a neat 12 bar blues harmony line that is played on two strings only, and is made up almost exclusively of two intervals, therefore, fingerings. You'll see what I mean when you visit the lesson page at http://www.guitarforbeginners.com

The other lesson is a little more advanced, and it looks at intervals and one particular bluesy figure in its many fretboard positions. I then turn it into a longer, more complex improvisation. You'll see how one simple idea can become an unlimited number of variations. It's all in the movie, tab and midi at the Lessons page of http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com

They should keep your brain busy and fingers nimble for a couple of days!

(Pardon the little speed bump I put in the way of both lessons, but it keeps this free content in high profile for others to take advantage of.)

All the best, until next time,
Kirk Lorange
