KIRK'S COLUMN Hello, fellow guitar enthusiast. I trust the twanging is good. Big news for me is that next Sunday, I leave for a year in my homeland, Canada. I moved to Australia back in 1974 for what I figured would be a few months, and I've been here ever since. No wonder: it's a great country; but I'm looking forward now to life in the Northern Hemisphere for four real seasons. To anyone on this list who attended the farewell Kirk gig my old band The Train put on in Sydney last Friday: thanks for coming. Wasn't it HUGE? I didn't know they could pack that many people into the Bridge Hotel, and to have two of my kids (who are now old enough to get in legally) in the audience was very special. I think they may have finally understood why I persevered with this sometimes difficult profession. Last week's lesson was a finger style look art the verse section of Still the One (by Shania Twain, who I'm sure won't mind this lesson). This week, as promised, is the chorus section. As usual, it's a movie/tab/midi/commentary lesson, so you really can't help but learn. You've just got to use your power of concentration to get those fingers to do what you tell them to do. Don't forget that YOU control your fingers, not the other way around. Go to www.guitarforbeginners.com and you'll see the link halfway down the page, with the customary speed bump. PlaneTalk, The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book continues to sell at an ever growing rate, and the move to Canada won't affect anything. I've organized myself so that the transition will be smooth, so order away! The lesson it teaches is the "trick" to keeping track of all things musical on the fretboard, distilled over 44 years of playing this wonderful instrument. Go to http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com to find out all about it. All the best, |
