KIRK'S COLUMN This week I've done a finger style lesson -- the usual movie/tab/midi format -- of that beautiful hymn, Amazing Grace. I can't think of a better example of a I-IV-V chord tune than this, although I added a couple of passing chords to the recipe, for interest's sake. Go to http://www.guitarforbeginners.com and click the Weekly Lesson link. I guess I need not warn you anymore about the little obstacle I put in the way. Thanks for your patience. After my big move from Down Under to Up Over, I'm getting a little more settled in. Vancouver has been suitably wet for my arrival ... hang on! That's why I left here in 74! That's why I moved to Australia! After a few hiccups, my book PlaneTalk is going out to the World again; I've had a new batch of videos run off, and I'm on the verge of turning it into DVD. PlaneTalk (The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book) is of course the only book which teaches the trick to 'seeing' the music laid out the whole length of the fretboard. It's a simple visualization technique, which has nothing to do with scales or modes, that is the key to improvisation. If you're at a stage in your playing where you're familiar with all the basics, even profficient, but you're still wondering how it is that some players can invent endlessly using the whole fretboard, then this is the book for you. Check it out at http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com where you'll also find many lessons. All the best,
Until next week, |
