KIRK'S COLUMN Dropped-D Voicings As you probably have realized by now, my favorite tuning is dropped D. I've been using it for decades now, and the neatest aspect of it has to be the new batch of chord voicings that come with it. This week's lesson looks at a nice bluesy jazz progression using some unusual chord voicings. It's another finger style approach, so limber those digits up and click the following link to get there: http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com/voicings/ In other news, I have finally found a reliable program that allowed me to convert the companion video to my book PlaneTalk into DVD. Just like VHS, DVD comes in two world formats, and I'm pleased to say that I have both now. PlaneTalk, of course, is The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book, which reveals the 'trick' to seeing the entire fretboard as familiar, friendly territory. Here is a letter I received this morning: "Kirk, reading your "Plane Talk" was like turning on a light. I've always depended on scales to try to find my way around the fret board. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and obvious love of the guitar. Your video and book have de-mystified the whole thing." -- Bob I get these letters just about every day. So, if you want to learn the 'trick' and see it demonstrated in the hour long DVD, drop into http://planetalk.thallteachyou.com and order it. All authentic PlaneTalkers can also join the PlaneTalkers Forum, where we discuss the technique at length. We're a happy bunch of twangers in there. We're 453 strong at the moment, and not a complaint from anybody. www.guitarforbeginners.com receives a good 1500 visits per day now, no wonder ... there are close to 20 movie/tab/midi lessons there, all free, plus about one hundred pages of guitar playing info. All the best, until next week,
Kirk |
