WHEN DYLAN PLUGGED IN

The 1965 Newport Folk Festival is remembered primarily for the boos that Bob Dylan received when he plugged in an went electric on the folksters. Purists couldn't handle their expectations being shattered by one of their new cultural icons. As Dylan performed 'Like A Rolling Stone', with a backing band featuring three members of the Butterfield Band, the audience started yelling "Play folk music! ... Sell out! ... This is a folk festival! ... Get rid of that band!"
