KIRK'S COLUMN Line 'em up II Here is another interesting look at how notes conveniently line themselves up in standard/dropped D for the slide. This week's lesson looks at a harmonized major scale in double stops. I say 'conveniently' ... some of you may wonder how eight or nine fret leaps up and down the fretboard could be termed 'convenient', but with practice, they're all the same ... once you train your hand/eye/ear to make these big jumps, it doesn't really matter how far apart they are. Go to http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com and look for the Weekly Lesson link. It's a good one, well worth the dreaded speedbump.
I am going to put together some 'master class lessons', consisting of
the usual movie/tab/midi/commentary, but these will be on CD and high
quality video and sound. Online lessons have to be compressed down to
nothing to be usable, and the loss in quality is huge. I will
concentrate on slide in dropped D, since it's what I do best. A teaser
for the first lesson is at this link: ... A classic!
I've been re-vamping Guitar for Beginners, slowly turning it into a PHP
site, which is much easier to update and maintain. I do it all myself,
and it takes me away from the twanging, so it's a good move. I'll be
adding some content there over the next couple of weeks, so drop in and
say hi in the guestbook. There are tons of free movie lessons there too.
Until next week, |
