KIRK'S COLUMN

Country Blues Bend

Hi... back again!

This week's lesson is a quick but interesting musical phrase that could be an ending to a country / blues tune. It's got a few things going for it: it incorporates a double stop bend, a finger style approach, a barre double stop, some single line playing ... all in the space of three bars. It also forces you to leave the safety of the nut area, where all the open chords and strings are. This figure takes place around the seventh fret, smack dab in the middle of the fingerboard.

Go to http://www.guitaforbeginners.com and follow the weekly lesson link.

I have had a great reaction to my Master Lesson CD. The first is of a well known blues rock tune that you can hear by going to the home page of my site http://www.bottleneckguitar.com. The lesson follows the same format as this one, but I have made several movies for it, all high resolution, and several pages of commentary, tablature, fretboard graphics ... you name it, it's got it. Because of the size of the files, this one is available on CD only. If you're interested, go to http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com/xroads/

Don't forget to drop into http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com where you will find more free lessons and where you can read about my book PlaneTalk which continues to reveal to players all over the globe the simple visualization technique that is the trick to having the entire fretboard at your disposal at all times. Below is the latest feedback I received, from Michael in Griffin, Georgia:

"I'm not sure just how I came upon your web site but I'm glad I did. What a truly refreshing approach to teaching, and for me, learning. I've been playing guitar for 35 years and I've tried several different books and videos to improve on what skills (as limited as they are) I have. It was stale and boring and at least for me very difficult to comprehend. I had relinquished myself to being content with the level of ability I had. After some reading on your web site I ordered and received your book, video etc. I now have the enthusiasm I had when I first began to learn guitar and just wanted to say thanks."

All authentic PlaneTalkers are welcome to join the PlaneTalkers Forum, where we discuss at length music in general, the PT technique in particular.

That's it for this week; I hope you enjoy the lesson. All the best,

Kirk
