KIRK'S COLUMN More finger style Hi again fellow picker, I trust you have been working out last week's lesson, being the verse section of Always on my Mind. What a beautiful tune it is, too. As promised, I've done the chorus section. There is in fact a third section to this song which I will do next week. It's very similar to the verse section, but warrants its own lesson. These non-verse/non-chorus sections of tunes are common. They're often called 'the bridge' or the 'middle eight' (meaning 8 bars). As usual, go to http://www.guitarforbeginners.com and follow the Weekly Lesson link, negotiate that irksome speedbump and get into it. I'm chuffed to report that my tune "Storm a Comin'", which is a studio track recorded many moons ago using la crème de la crème of Sydney musicians, is (as of Friday November 19 2004) number 2 in the Blues General chart at http://www.soundclick.com, that great site where you can load your music up to be heard by the World at Large. You can have a listen to the tune here if you're interested. Your visit will push it even further up ... maybe I'll hit number 1! My book PlaneTalk, which reveals the 'trick' to seeing your entire fretboard as friendly, familiar territory, continues to enlighten twangers from all over the globe. Check it out here: http://www.thatllteachyou.com I recently sent the 'special' package to Vladimir in Russia, a lover of the Blues in the Land of the Reds! He is a webmaster himself and I've agreed to let him translate some of my slide guitar lessons into Russian for his site. Check it out: http://bluesguitar.ru/articles/kirk_dropped_d.html OK, that's it for this week,
Happy twanging,
