Being a guitar player for many years I'm always lookin' for new ways to get somethin' different sounding out of my stuff. here's something i saw a New York studio guy use a few years ago on his guitar and have used it myself ever since.

It's simple to do and really makes a major difference in how your acoustic guitar will sound. simply replace your "g" string with a high "e" and then tune it up to "g". I know it doesn't sound like much but it makes the guitar sound like a very different instrument.

I use it a lot to double rhythm guitar parts but I've even heard it used as a solo rhythm guitar. try it, it's a cool little trick.

A previous newsletter mentioned using a high e string for the third string and tuning it up to g. This is a variation of Nashville tuning which uses all octave strings for the wound strings, i.e. a twelve string tuning withOUT the bass strings. This set-up produces a novel rhythm guitar sound with or without a second normal rhythm guitar.

3a - HELP IN LOCATING SHEET MUSIC FOR 2 SONGS

I have been trying to locate the chord progressions for two songs.
Apparently these songs are not available in any format.

1 - Willing by Lloyd George of Little Feat
2 - Bob Away My Blues by the Marshall Tucker Band

I am afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis and have had to develop a mongrelized tapping technique for my left hand. I purchased a Parker Fly guitar which is light enough for me to manipulate with one hand, about 3 pounds. I want to play these songs for my own enjoyment. Any assistance will be appreciated.

4 - CREATING/MODIFYING GUITARS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

I have a physical disability that makes playing the guitar
difficult in the conventional manner. In fact, it makes it
pretty much impossible. I have tried learning slide guitar,
to some degree of success, but would still like to go
further.

Now my question...Do you know of any sites, or for that
matter, any individuals that specialise in either
creating/modifying guitars for people with difficulties?

I remember years ago (at least 15) a modifier of electric
guitars I think from England, but that was for a purpose
other than accommodating the physically disabled - I think
it was more of an experiment that involved including an
angled neck and a push-pad instead of the usual fret board
(or something like that...).

Anyway, if you know of such a direction for me to take, or
any advice you'd be prepared to offer, that would be great.

Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone off-hand. There are many luthiers offering custom designs, though not specifically mentioning adjustments for those with disabilities. I guess you could contact some of the makers & makers2 pages:

You're in Sydney, Australia, right? You could ask at your local guitar store - get the number from Yellow Pages & give them a call.

We've been building custom guitars for the disabled for 20 years.
We use the Melobar guitar fretguide and a version of our Pat.
Sure grip bar and it works great, I think this is what that guy was referring to.

5 - HEY MAN, YOU'RE SMOKING!

One night we were hosting our regular Tuesday night jam and a new face appeared with a guitar case. We brought the guy up, plugged him into the spare amp, and asked him what he wanted to play. He said "anything", so I said "blues, rock, country, what?".

He responded by saying "Hey man, I can play anything, whatever you want." Uh huh. So we launched into a blues shuffle in G and the guy lights a cigarette and then starts soloing with a circular picking style on qualludes type thing.

Next thing we know, the cherry of his cigarette has fallen into his shirt pocket and started burning his shirt! The drummer yells out "Hey man, you're smoking!"

The guy turns around and says "I know".
Then the bass player yells out "you're on fire!"
and the guy again says "I know".

Eventually he realizes his shirt is burning and slaps it out, packs up his guitar and leaves the bar.

I still wet my pants laughing when I tell this story, so I've got to go.

Liquid Audio manufacturers and distributes a copyrighted
software program, the Liquid Audio Music(tm) Player,

designed to protect musical recordings against piracy
(i.e. unauthorized reproduction and distribution).

"We recently searched your site at Filez.com and found
three hyper-links to ftp sites for downloads of a program
called a2b2wav.zip ("a2b2wav"). An article you authored at
http://www.mp3.com discusses the a2b2wav program at length and
contains a link to a site where it can be downloaded."

"As you know, the a2b2wav program functions to "crack" the
copy protection features in the Liquid Music(tm) Player,
by making unauthorized modifications to Liquid Audio's
copyrighted software.

The "crack" allows music recorded in
Liquid Audio's proprietary, encrypted and uncopyable
format to be saved as a ".wav" file, which can be freely
copied and distributed without any the authorization of
the recording's copyright holder (sic). The only purpose
of the a2b2wav program is to promote music piracy. Your

Those many bands using the new mp3 audio technology to
deliver their music to web surfers are not only cutting
their own throats, but are damaging the internet music
industry as a whole.

MP3 can deliver high quality audio for visitors to band
sites, but it sacrifices far too much download time to be a
sensible medium for web presentation. How many of those
visitors are patient enough to hang around for it?

The internet has been swamped by an avalanche of mp3 files
on band sites around the world over the past few months,
during which time I've come to the conclusion that these are
sites I should avoid...

6d - MP3 SITES SUCK...

I’m probably biting the hand that feeds (my MP3 page gets over 1000 hits every day), but take a look at "The MP3 Grooveyard" to see all that’s bad in MP3 site design: http://welcome.to/grooveyard

WARNING – if you follow that link you’ll get not only the site you want, but another 4 annoying pop-up windows, containing sexually explicit links to porn sites.

Pause in horror/amazement – don’t click on anything, and you’ll get another 5 windows after 60 seconds or so (a la Sorcerers Apprentice)! Before you can close all the 10 windows, the browser usually crashes... and you still haven’t found what "The Grooveyard" had to offer!

I finally found a pretty good list of MP3 music tracks to download

Hence if you look at my MP3 page, you’ll find this entry:

are not working, I have to tell you I’m not going to waste time visiting sites like "The Grooveyard" to check them!

Why do I have an MP3 page then? Well, who am I to say you shouldn’t visit these sites! It’s not my cup of tea, but I believe in freedom of choice. Besides, all the mp3 controvesy at http://www.mp3.com/ is the closest software comes to gossip!
(now in the time it’s taken you to read my rantings, you could have downloaded an mp3 file – they’re fantastic potential quality when you finally get them!)
