1 - ALL THE CHORDS I NEEDED TO KNOW, I LEARNED AT MY FIRST LESSON
by Mike mike@thegem.net
At the Dallas Show someone asked: How many chords are there on the guitar? Good question! Six, ten thousand, a million - who knows - but what we do know is that there are
only 5 simple shapes from which all chords are created!
Let's imagine a puzzle box. Visualize the picture on the box and see it as a "whole" picture. Next, take a pair of scissors and cut this "holistic" picture into 5 pieces. How hard would it be to put together a puzzle with only 5 pieces - Playschool right? Well, the picture on the puzzle box is your whole "holistic" fretboard, which is the 7 letters of music: A, B, C, D, E, F, G placed horizontally (East and West) on 6 strings and 12 frets...

3 - GIVING LIFE TO THE CHROMATIC SCALE
From: Iwan suyati@idola.net.id
Hi my name is Iwan and I've been playing guitar for a couple of years. I have played in many different situations some positive and some that well, let's say should be learned from and forgotten. I thought I'd try and write something to take my mind off my guitar equipment that I lost at my last show.
Giving life to the chromatic scale.... Definitely the most boring exercise ever invented! A lot of players tend to skip this exercise, missing out on the wonderful things that it can do for your technique. Granted technique in the world at the moment is not very popular due largely to the fact that many players abused it and made the musical world completely sick of it. I stand by it, however, because when used correctly and sparingly it can add tension, anger or complete and total chaos to a song, which leaves the listener wanting more.
The chromatic scale when viewed on the guitar is basically taking your left hand and going 1st fret, 2nd fret, 3rd fret, 4th fret, on one string or to take the lower E string as an example f, f#, g, g# etc.
How is something so completely simple and not very exiting beneficial to your playing you may ask? Well if practised for an hour a day it will definitely help strengthen both your hands. So how do we make this interesting? With a little imagination and experimentation! I will now tell you two out of the thousands of variations on this exercise that I use and that have worked for me...

4 - TABIT
From: AgentxNofx@aol.com
About a year and a half ago, before I started playing guitar. I used to use my computer all the time, on aol. Then one day I decided to check out things that might be able to help me learn how to play the guitar better. So, I did a search on through aol's file search, and a few things popped up. The first I clicked on was Tabit 1.20. I realized what a nice piece of software it was. I thought it was awesome.
After a couple months of using the Tabit 1.20, and taking lessons at the local music store I was fairly good at playing guitar if I say so myself. Well anyways to get to the point, lots of people think that Tabit 1.20 is the best Guitar Tablature Editor type thing out the, but I found
something that is way better than that one day when I was searching for some Guitar/Tablature pages so I could put them on, the Tabit 1.20 to see how it would compare to the way that I had tabbed it out for some song.
I came across a great piece of software, that was similar to Tabit, it was called Guitar-Pro. After a few minutes of messing with it, I found it pretty easy to use the software. I could play my Guitar along with the Guitar Pro, and it would sorta be just like jamming with my friends, except for the Obvious (cant just starting playing other songs). But then, my friends that I play with had computers and I could jam out stuff on my guitar. And we could come up with songs like that, and when you print them out they look like the top quality stuff.
Anyways, I suggest that anyone that likes Tabit, should check this one out. The latest version that is out now is Guitar-Pro 2.16 to find out more, go to
www.guitar-pro.com
Here are some of the things that you can do with Guitar-Pro:
Guitar Pro is a tablature editor for guitar, banjo and bass. Tablature files can include 8 tracks (7 instruments and percussion). All tracks are totally configurable (instrument, tuning, volume, chorus, reverb, pan). Guitar Pro allows you to listen to tablatures with effects and to print them. It also possible to export and import in MIDI and ASCII Tab formats. Guitar Pro helps you to transcribe traditional musical scores into tablature. Guitar Pro also
contains an extensive chord dictionary(this thing helps me out a lot) which will recognise and store additional chords entered by the user. Lastly, Guitar Pro is available in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

5 - THE TELECASTER DISCUSSION PAGE
From: Brunfox@aol.com
A great place for country and other topics is in Tennessee. It is a discussion page where guitarists talk and swap advice, information and tricks of the trade. Primarily the topic is related to Telecastors, but there is much about country also. Indeed, the group is so popular and friendly, that many famous session players and at times popular artists participate.
I got onto this newsgroup after much flaming at alt.rickenbacker while I was enquiring into pyramid strings for my Rickenbacker guitars 360/6, 360/12,
(I also have a fender Strat and G&L Bass). I am now a student and seeking the best advice and best deal, (I was not flamed). It was refreshing to view this site. Others have enjoyed the site so much that several of the aforementioned artists, bought the webmaster a brand new vintage telecastor worth thousands.
Goes to show how popular and rewarding this site is.
I have gone on too much. The site is at:
www.wwa.com/~pikelny/tele/wwwboard/
I know new comers will enjoy it. One more thing, you need to register. Do not worry, it is completely free and is
a new feature to protect participants from flaming. It works very well, and it is user friendly.

11 - JOSE FELICIANO
Jose Feliciano has been acclaimed by critics throughout the world as "the greatest living guitarist". Jose's guitar work is legendary. For over 30 years he has been "instrumental" in dignifying the acoustic guitar by bringing it to a level of acceptance rivaled by few in the industry. Soul, pop, rock, jazz, classical - in English Spanish and Italian, Jose has delighted people worldwide with his inimitable style. Honored by Guitar player Magazine, he is in their "Gallery of the Greats"; his hands
are 'enbronzed' in Madame Tussaud's in London and Billboard Magazine has bestowed a Lifetime Achievement Award on the man whose life has been the guitar.

13 - REPLACING AND FIXING STRINGS
From: "Kenneth A.E.O" eomar@pc.jaring.my
When do we need to replace the guitar strings??
Well, you must replace your strings at the first sign of tiredness. In any case, avoid keeping them more than three months. You must make sure to avoid mounting strings which do not fit your instrument (Classical, Folk or Electric)
and choose a rather flexible set.
For example, on a Classical Guitar use strings from a regular set, on a Folk or an Electric one, a set of
light gauge (with E treble string in 0.10).
Important TIPS!!!
NEVER replace all the strings at the same time, but progressively change them one after the other and keep on tuning your Guitar.
Whatever type of Guitar you own, it is necessary to pass the string through the hole of the movable tuning pegs. But careful because you need to roll up the string in a quite precise direction. Its depends on what type of guitar you are using. For example classical Guitar, Folk or Electric Guitar.
One more tip from me: always keep a set of strings (new or worn) handy, just in case you need them. Do not be surprised if after having put in a new set, you are obliged to tune your Guitar several times. It is not unusual.
The strings need a few hours to stay in tune after replacement. But before that, make sure you know how to
tune your guitar :-)
So before you start playing your Guitar, you have to tune it, for it is impossible to make music with an untuned instrument. In addition, do not hesitate to check the tuning of your Guitar if what you play sounds strange.
That is all for now. Hope U enjoy my article.

15 - SELL YOUR CD ON THE NET
From: Joe Kerns
This is Joe Kerns, Neil Zaza's webmaster. I want to offer my services to your readers. I re-sell CDs, tapes, videos, etc. via the 'net, allowing bands/artists not able to become a credit card merchant the ability to make sales on the 'Net by accepting credit cards (MC/V/AMEX).
Basically, how it works is:

as an interface to their section of my on-line store.
2- They send me 5-10 items (+/- based on volume), and I take care of the shipping/billing/etc.
3- At the end of each month I send them a check amounting to
CD sales, commission, and order more product from them.
And that's it. I am setting up an area of my website,
http://www.joltinjoe.com
that will be the store. I also provide real audio
(I am running a G2 server), audio and video as part of the package.
