1 - *** WIN PRIZES ***

OK, here’s you chance to help fellow musicians AND help yourself to a valuable prize! All you have to do is submit a short entry for a future Guitar Newsletter (sent to GuitarMaster@hitsquad.com). Please keep it short (no more than 200 words or so, but you can link to a longer article on the Web). All entries are eligible for entry to the newsletter at a future date, but the prizes go to the most original / entertaining / interesting / useful article. It can be a funny guitar-related experience, a tip, joke, new/original tab, or review.

What do you win? Thanks to Smith Family Music of Idaho we have three ENHANCRs to give away! The new Model Series 2000 ENHANCR fits most acoustic guitars and installs easily. The basic principle behind the ENHANCR is simple; vibrating metal placed atop a guitar makes the entire guitar body vibrate more. Six metal cones, held together by a steel wire, slide under each individual string of the guitar. When each string is picked the cone under that string vibrates against the bridge of the guitar, sending an additional vibration into the guitar body. Check it out

4 - ONLINE DESIGN by Dwight Maddox:

"I am a custom guitar maker from West Point Mississippi, birthplace of Howlin' Wolf. I have a very unique web site. You can design your own custom guitar right there on the web site. You can pick a guitar from the template list, change any part of the body shape, change headstocks, put different pickups on it, and then put a finish on it. I also have a chat room where I can chat with people on my Webpage that are designing a guitar or just looking around. We are in the process of adding new guitars to the slide show and to the template system." Check it out

5 - TABLATURE

What do you think of this? Iris by Goo Goo Dolls:
Tuning: DADDAD (weird, uh??)

        INTRO:
Chords: x20050
        x20040

        332000
        330000

VERSE: (arpegio)alternate between the first three chords and
        000000 then the other three
        2x0000
        550000

        x20000
        x00000
        550000

        CHORUS:

        x20000
        x00000
        550000
There are a couple new TABs in the archive: Hotel California by the Eagles and Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple

There is also a good selection of Hendrix tabs, either individually, or as one 60K zip file

And 150 Smashing Pumpkins tabs can be had in one 188K zip file

I am looking for original TABS to add to this modest archive. Mail me with any you are happy to have hosted on "1000 Great Guitar Sites"... My Web space is limited, so do you want the obscure or popular?

Guitar Notes comprehensively lists guitar sites and A-Z tabs. The guitar tab search engine indexes guitar music from all over the net, including OLGA files and tabs for other sites. There are thousands of artists in the listings to help you find what you want.

If you would like the search engine to index tablature from your own site, you can now submit your tablature to the search engine. Guitar Notes does not actually archive tablature files, but rather provides a portal to such resources on the net.

7 - DROP D TUNING SLIDE GUITAR

Following on from last weeks popular article, Kirk Lorange has added a crash course in Drop D slide guitar to his site

8 - TO READ OR NOT TO READ?

Contrary to popular belief, being a session guitarist does not necessarily mean you have to be a fluent reader. Many producers and musical directors are keyboard players and have no idea how to write for guitar. In fact many producers have very little musical knowledge and get their results by hiring the right players. More often than not, a chord chart is all that you get. As a professional you are expected to turn that chord progression into music. It is therefore often more important to be able to invent something on the spot than to be a fluent reader with nothing to read and nothing to say...

It is a bilingual site: Spanish/ English. We are offering some free tabs and transcriptions, lots of free realaudios and some interesting contents about flamenco guitar Thanks for your time. Gracias!

**********************************************

As a visitor to the site, you already know that it aims to showcase the best that the Web has to offer to those interested in the guitar. This newsletter is an extension to that, aiming to review sites and products in an attempt to save your time surfing, letting you know what is new on the site & what is hot on the Net! Entries will be kept short, with references to URLs for further reading, rather that full text articles.

If you want to include your own brief article (250 words max.) for the next newsletter, just mail me. Only entries deemed to be of great interest to the readers will be enclosed, though (humour, tips, tricks, reviews) - I do not want to bore readers with a deluge of advertising or unwarranted self-promotion.
