MP3 STREAMING HITS PRIME TIME mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=1685 On August 28th, Austin-based Internet start-up WorldNet Box Office brings MP3 streaming to prime time with the launch of Austin ClubCastLive. Featuring live MP3 encoding of broadcasts from 15 of the city's most popular nightclubs, the site is the first of its kind and will likely quickly make ClubCastLive the largest MP3 simulcasting site on the Web. The site will be accessible directly at www.clubcastlive.com as well as through WNBO's entertainment portal at www.wnbo.com. At the center of Austin ClubCastLive is Internet audio codec MP3, a technology which, while surrounded by controversy, has never the less caught fire in cyberspace. As of June, MP3 became the Internet's most popular search topic. MP3 technology has become, according to the New York Times, "part of the entertainment vocabulary almost as quickly as the name Lewinsky became part of the political one". By perfecting the real-time MP3 encoding of live audio, WNBO has moved to the forefront of the MP3 revolution. All users can listen to real-time and archived streams, or CD-quality mono for 56k modems, and stereo CD-quality for ISDN users. |
