JOIN THE NETMUSIC SUBCULTURE Australian netBuskers This is a new(?) way for you to distribute your music and a new way for you to earn money from your music... this is also a way that a listener can pay less, less often, for music. Subscribe to the artist once a year and from then on it's all FREE. How? ...EXAMPLE 1: Subscription to bandX Price set by the band, $15/yr Subscriber information (name, address etc) belongs to and is held by the band. This means that the band's subscribers 'belong' to the band. The material released FTS (Free To Subscribers) is determined by the band. They decide that, for the price, they could release 2 or 3 songs a year plus a few snippets of video and some discounts on material released through the 'normal' channels (CDs). The band has their own web site and can handle the subscriptions and the distribution. All the income from subscriptions goes to the band. ...EXAMPLE 2: Subscription to BandY Price set by the band, $10/yr They decide that, for the price, they could release 1 or 2 songs a year. The band has their own web site but is not equipped to handle the online subscriptions or the distribution of music files to subscribers so they get netBuskers or a similar netAgency to do the job. The income from subscriptions minus a management fee/commission goes to the band. Well I reckon that the possibilities are endless and will be implementing this scheme myself as soon as my next song is recorded. Maybe one day an artist will be judged on how many 'subbies' they have instead of how many CDs they've sold. After all, if you don't look after your subscribers then they won't re-subscribe the next year. If you want to give it a go, would like to discuss it further, have comments or just want to be a Dingo 'Subby', then e-me:
"Dingo" Ted Skewes
