INDEPENDENT MUSIC + BUSINESS + WWW = INDIEBIZ.COM http://www.indiebiz.com/ If you ask independent musicians and labels about their experience with music web sites, you'll often hear the same comments, "too much junk and nothing I can really use to further my career in the real world." Independent bands are tired of sites that offer thousands of music titles to download, but nothing else. They are tired of sites that have no filters to separate the kids in their bedrooms from those making a living (or trying to). Just launched, IndieBiz.com is a interactive web-based service aimed at musicians and other independent music business people who are serious about their career. By combining communications and database capabilities, IndieBiz.com attempts to provide a comprehensive resource and online community for independent musicians and business people. "The vision behind IndieBiz.com is to provide an Internet destination for those in the independent music business who want access to professional networking tools, contact databases, and marketing information that most smaller operations can't afford," said David Hooper, founder of IndieBiz.com. A key feature that differentiates IndieBiz.com from the growing number of independent music resources on the Internet is a unique emphasis on regional promotions. Bands are encouraged to saturate a small to medium sized area to protect from spreading their promotion too thin. "Nationwide and Worldwide promotions don't work for independent bands and labels," said Katie Davidson of Kathode Ray Music. "Most of the Internet sites featuring independent music are spreading the belief that the Web is a good thing simply because of its size. That's simply not the case. Having a web site is like having a number in the phone book. It doesn't mean anybody is going to call..." Whether bands are looking for other musicians, a good booking agent, or a couch to sleep on during their tour, IndieBiz.com tries to help. |
