This is an A chord:

The thing with the A chord is that you only want to play the four strings indicated on the tablature. If you play all six strings (the Low and High E strings open) your playing will sound unprofessional.

This is a D chord:

Again, only play the notes indicated on the tablature.

This is an E chord:

When you play these chords together (A, D, and E) you will be playing a chord progression that is used in literally thousands of American songs. . . Everything from Wild Thing to Crazy Train. This sort of progression is pretty much the essence of what rock and roll music is. Here are a lot of essential chords you will need to know to be a respectable guitarist:
