Surprisingly, the most recogniazable guitar riffs of all time are also the easiest ones to play. A few years ago I took a poll on the newsgroup alt.guitar.tab where everyone got to vote on the best guitar riffs ever. This is the outcome of that poll with a few other riffs added in. Assuming that you already know how to read tablature this could be the easiest guitar lesson you'll ever take. Just try out the examples and you'll be able to amaze your friends in no time!
