Your subject is a daily generator of many different opinions and extensive discussion. But the essence is well exposed by Eddie's follow up. In addition, I could say that in my experience, to have both worlds is the best, with the basic sound of a good tube amp and a high quality processor that doesn't color your note. What’s important is to have good gear. In both worlds there are great gear and crap. If you choose good gear you can mix it and take advantage of both worlds.
