This has been driving me crazy. Are you by chance the same Clif Kuplen who lived in Raleigh, N.C. and went to grad school at NCSU in the late sixties to early seventies? He was my friend and mentor (though he probably considered my sorry teenage buttocks an annoyance- I used to pick his brains for guitar technique, which I sorely lacked in those days). Anyway he was a great guitarist and seemed to have fallen off the face of the Earth sometime after I left the Big R in ’74.

Hola Christina! No puedo comprender mucho en espanol, pero soy norte americano. Mi familia era (?) desde Yugoslavia, pero hace muchos anos (en 1875) cuando van al estados unidos. No conosco Kuplens en Yugoslavia (o uraguay!)
(Hello Christina, I don’t speak Spanish unfortunately, but I tried above. My family is from Yugoslavia originally, but they relocated to the U.S. around 1875) My Great grandfather was August Kuplen, born in Yugoslavia, but he was living in Vienna Austria before coming to the United States with his wife Johanna. He died before I was born, but I knew my great grandmother. She was Viennese and spoke only German and English. It was very interesting happening onto your message. I was very surprised to know of someone in Uraguay with the same last name! It is very rare here in the U.S. Only 46 families with the name Kuplen

I was looking for in the web something about Kuplen`s family and i find this site. It was so funny!, My father Mario Kuplen died 2 years ago, here in uruguay we are a little family called Kuplen, but i see that we are too much in the world… maybe we came to the same family in the past… Is good to know you, i like the jazz music, but i prefer the gypsy jazz (manouche), like Django Reinhardt!!!, Now i have 26 years old and i try to learn play the volin, is diffilcut…good luck! kisses from uruguay!
August Kuplen is my great grandfather as well. His daughter Anna Caroline married my grandfather Albert Van Pevenage
Latvian family here, Kuplens… dunno if it is at all connected. It was the name of the estate that my family owned there.
