Hey folks. I just purchased this guitar today for 40$. The name on the headstock says "Gould" and the label inside says it is made by the Guild company. The Model # is FM 100, and the serial # is 34012. I haven’t found out any more information on it, wondering if someone would be able to tell me a bit more about this instrument. Thanks..
Jason

This popular thread has been given its own page : Gould wg-20 12string
: I have a Gould wg-20 12 string that i bought in a pawn shop in Columbus,OH. It plays great and has probably the best action of any acoustic guitar i have ever played. I am acually trying to find out how much it is worth. I have someone interested in it and need a price. I traded an electic for it even up cause i lived in an apartment and couldn’t play it. If you find ut anything i would appreciate if you dropped me an e-mail. Thanks,J
Great guitar. I have the saME GUITAR 12 STRING WG-20. iT WaS PURCHASED APPROX 35 YEARS AGO.. I’m not sure what its worth. Gould guitars were built in Michigan .
I was just wondering if anyone else has run across anything like this. My dad passed his guitar down to me a few years ago, it is a Gould wg-20 (model #) and its an acoustic 12string. He grew up in Detroit Michigan and bought it in the early 70’s. He bought it under the impression that it was hand made. I cant find anything out about a gould, and I was just wondering if anyone had any insight on this subject.
Hi!
I acquired this guitar over the summer and am interested in selling it. It’s in amazing shape. It’s really hard to find any info on the guitar other than Gould guitars were built in Detroit. Please give me some help in getting a value for this.
I have a Gould wg-20, 12 String Guitar. I purchased it in the mid 70’s from a girl that was playing guitar in a band in Kingman, AZ. Her name was Cheryl Roth.
I never saw her or the band again but I remember her name because of the fact that the Gould wg-20 is the sweetest guitar I have ever played. She had indicated that I should always keep it tuned down and use a capo on the 2nd fret for concert.
I dropped the case with the guitar in it, some years later, and the shock broke the bridge. I tried to fix it but I’m no luthier. I am going to have it repaired as it is still my favorite guitar even though I’ve not played it for a few years.
The neck was always perfect, it never got out of tune, you could leave it for weeks and when you picked it up again it was in perfect tune and would stay that way during play. The strings were always very close to the fret board with never a buzz. It was perfect.
Anyway, I’ve added my comments to this board because it’s the only place I’ve ever seen that had anyone who knew anything about Gould guitars, even if it’s not much. And yes, it is a Gould, Not a Guild. The inside label reads “Gould Guita” wg-20 (written by hand with ink pen). It also has “Distributed by: Guitars and Such, Wholesalers – Importers – Distributors”.
Thanks to all for the above posts and for what knowledge they were able to share.
I owned this guitar for 37 years. The Gould WG-20 played great then and still has the same tones now. I understood that the guitar was designed in suburbs of Detroit where Gould lived, but built in Japan and shipped to Detroit . Conflicting stories whether it was hand built in the Detroit area or built in Japan..
I was told it is worth about 200.00 . Cant remember what I paid for it than. Probably wasn’t much more than that. I was hoping it would of went up in value, but not the case.
Gould Guita, w-G20, (12 string guitar), distributed by Guitars and Such; At least that is what is printed on the tag inside mine.
I wish I had more information. I have been trying to find information, ANY information for many years! I have found nothing.
And I’m tired of people telling me that I can’t see, it must be a Guild. NO, it is a Gould (.).
Now I’ve learned from here with you guys that Gould guitars are-or-were Made in Detroit. I’ve Have lived in Detroit and the Detroit Metro area all my life and have never known that Goulds were made here in Detroit!
A friend of mine brought this guitar to me years ago because his three boys were distroying it! 18 philips screw driver holes
drivin’ through the soundboard (body face) above, below and mainly behind the bridge. the bridge plate (rosewood, as is the fingerboard) was peeled up from soundboard along back side E to E, just hanging on skin in front! And of course the usuall
faults you would find on an old guitar, ei; missing tuner knobs, gears and screws, ect, ect, ect. i’ve been working on guitars
since my first in 1975. So I filled in all the holes with wood/glue dope and pressed a fake Diamond onto each. Fixed the Bridge and Trussrod, crowned the fret wires. also fixed the tuners with all Parts looking like the originals. At first it was strung with six strings so I could see if it was functioning correctly and holding up. I thought I could give it to one of my kids.
I fell in love with it! It sounded Great! So Then I Again reglued the bridge and was able to get some glue on supports and sound post inside so that it could hold 12 strings without a problem. Unbelievable!, It sounded SO nice it ended up in my collection permanently! But that is all I know and I would love to learn more. However, now that I know that they were made here in Detroit I might be able to find out more information by looking for the history of Gould Guitars here in Detroit. I will let you know if I do.
I bought this guitar from Mr. Gould in Detroit in 1972 with my dad who somehow knew him. We were in Gould’s basement/workshop. He told us he combined the Martin & Guild 12 string designs for this one. I still play it. The neck came loose some years ago so was repaired. Still sounds great.

: I have a gj Gould 6 string model F 31. I purchased it in Royal Oak, Mi in 1979 for approx. $400.00. It is hand made, with herringbone bindings, it is beautiful. It has a better tone than my Martin D35, or any other guitar I have ever seen or played. The sticker on it says it was hand made in Israel. Noone I know as ever heard of GJ Gould, and I have no idea what its worth but I would never sell it for any price.

i inherited one- i don’t remember the serial #– it is not for sale– but like most people i’ve talked to– love the one they have– same here it sounds like a very expensive guitar, my dad had a country western band for forty years ,he played with both of the DORSEY BOY’S[big band] 1941- he owned a new guitar every two years, just like our cars he loved change, he owned guitars we all lust after,1965 strat-1965 gibson hollow body, gretsch’s,rickenbackers, even a mostrite, always looking for that special sound,he tried em all, because he was in the union{musician’s union} our home town big-BIG- music store QUIGLEY’S, he was allowed to take a piece home to try it out,he tried all those instruments, he went right back to the strat. i play the 1965 strat, now i know why he did,but i also got to play all of his pieces cause he made me clean them{often} i loved them all they were all different in their own way,now back to the gould[GOULD] it plays same or better than his les paul, did, what i like about the gould it has a fast neck, slim and frets are perfect for me,my two cents worth-oh yeah if you can get the hollow body like mine i suggest you buy it,get neck ADJUSTED-ENJOY
I have acquired a sunburst De armond thinline ‘Starfire’ 335 type guitar the pickups are de armond and to my ear are every bit as good as my friends Gibson. Can anyone tell me about the guitar ??
Folks, Any luck finding out who made the G.J Gould guitar. I have a WG 200 an old girl friend gave me about 20 years ago. It’s a very nice piece, but I’ve never heard of it and can’t find anything about it. Would appreciate any information.
Thanks
Rik

I inherited a G.J. Gould guitar that was purchased rougly 25 years ago – can’t find out anything about it either — absolutely NOTHING on the web about this company but its a great quality guitar. Very strange!
I once owned a gould 12 string which eventually the top bowed from lack bracing, age and too high of tension. It was a great sounding guitar. My girlfriend at the time had another 12 string model. My sister once had a smaller student size 6 string. She wished she still had it. All these guitars were purchased from Mr. Gould himself at his home in the Detroit area. I was 16 at the time in the early seventies and don’t remember where. But anyone wishing to research Gould guitars from this era might wish to contact folks familiar with the Southeastern Michigan area music scene at the time.
I know its late but I bought a Gould guitar about 30 years ago in a Detroit suburb. Still have it and it sounds wonderful. A friend of mine new the maker…I think…as I bought it thru him.It sounds so much better than a $900.00 guitar I heard the other day! I believe it was a small one or two person company in a detroit suburb.
I bought my G J Gould D-880 sixer in 1986 from George’s Guitar Shop in Ferndale, MI (wonder whatever happened to George). It sounds sweeter now than it did when I bought it for only $350 and have many offers to buy but I could never see selling it. George said he knew the guy who made it, whether he was telling the truth or not I do not know. If he did then it was probably made locally in SE Michigan near or in Detroit. Now I am mystified!
maybe but i use my uncles g j gould, he bought it in texas like 30 years ago… idk if its local to se michigan. this guitar is warn and beat up but i could never sell it. it is practically mine, ive had it for 10 years and taught myself how to play on it. it is the most beautiful sounding guitar i have ever played. ever.
I have a gj gouild 6 string guitar that I have had for 10 years now I got it when I was 18 from a pawn shop and I have played it all this time. I t sounds good and is finished nice, I never thought i would see another guitar like this one, if anyone wants pics email me.
I have a G.J.Gould 6 string guitar (classic, I think; it’s just plain wooden. Model number D-350. This guitar was purchased at a pawn shop about 25 or 30 years ago. Does anyone know what year this guitar was made?

However, I know nothing about the guitar’s history or company. If anyone has information about GJ Gould Guitars I would appreciate hearing from you. I love this guitar. Thanks Ray

To 2000 Guitars Hello ! I have actually 2 things to say and 1-question I really would like answerred Please. #1)Rick Andrews is an HONEST TO GOODNESS GREAT GUY & I LOVE HIM LIKE A BIG BROTHER~! EVEN THOUGH HE & MY FATHER IN LAW COULD PASS AS DOUBLES!(THAT’S A COMPLIMENT RICK !)EVERYONE NEEDS A TONE BUSTER MODULE INSTALLED BY RICK IN THIER 3-SINGLE COIL AXE!I JUST CANT WAIT UNTIL HE DESIGNS ONE FOR A DUAL HUMBUCKER W/SPLIT NECK P.U. W/3 WAY 1959L.P.SWITCH.IN MY K-1 DESIGNED AND COMMISSIONED $2300.00 NIGHTMARE.1ST P.U.’S WERE INSTALLED BACKWARDS,2ND BLACK ICE CHIP WAS INSTALLED WRONG.3RD THE H.B.PICK-UP ROUTES WERE WAY TOO DEEP,AND MY IDEA OF SCREWING IN 2-1/2 INCH THICK X REG.LENGTH AND TAKE COPPER TAP AND ADHERE TO THE BOTTOM OF EACH P.U. LEAVING ENOUGH TO ROLL UP AND ATTACH AROUND 3/4" DRY WALL SCREW (PRE-DRILLED 2/32NDS THEN DROVE HOME!)THIS DID SEVERAL THINGS 1-pICK-UPS WERE IN THE CORRECT ROUTES,YEAAAAh!#2.THE COPPER-TAPE I READ ABOUT BY ANOTHER P.U./GUITAR MAKER OF THIS AND IT MAKES THE GUITAR DEAD QUIET!WE SPLIT JUST THE NECK P.U. AND INSTALLED THE BLACK ICE TO THE TONE POT THAT AT 1ST SPLIT THE REAR COIL.BUT BY NOT SPLITTING THE REAR COIL AND HOOKING UP THE BLACK ICE TO WHERE THE TONE RESISTOR USUALLY GOES,THAT WAYS WHEN WE DISCONECTED THE GOLD MINI SWITCH FROM THE BLACK ICE ON AND OFF AND USED THE 500K P/P FOR THE BLACK ICE ON THE TONE POT MADE ABOUT A 21 DECIBLE GAIN JUST WHAT I WANTED,OH AND THE 1/2INCH MAPLE TONE BLOCKS MADE THE BASS TIGHT AND SINCE IT WAS A ONE PIECE WALNUT MADE SEMI-SOLID BODY PADAUK NECK THRU DARK GUITAR,BRIGHTEN WAY UP AND THAT TOOK ALOT OF THE STRAIN OFF THE AMPLIFIER ! AND SO NOW YOU ASK WELL WHAT ABOUT THE WHOLE LEFT BY THE ON OFF SWITCH. WELL IT’S A KILL SWITCH.I’D LIKE TO ADD A BATTERY AND A LITTLE RED LIGHT TOO ! BUT THEN I GET BACK INTO THE POSSIBILITIES OF LOW 60 CYCLE HUM.!SO THE QUESTION I HAVE IF YOUR STILL AWAKE? WHO IS THE MANUFACTURER OF THAT BLUE PUSH BUTTON GUITAR THAT IS THIS WEB-SITE 2000 GUITARS FRONT PICTURED GUITAR><?> PLEASE LET US KNOW:[email protected] my name is Kenny Gordon. And Thank You for your Time !
