The Portland Guitar Society is a nonprofit organization for people who love the guitar. We sponsor and cosponsor many guitar concerts in the Portland area including the annual Portland Guitar Festival and the annual GFA Winners Concert. We have a lending library of sheet music, tapes, CDs, and records available to our members at meetings, and we publish a quarterly newsletter full of articles, reviews, and a calendar of guitar events. The PGS meets at Artichoke Music Backgate Stage, 3130 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Portland, Oregon. The meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of the month January-March; April-June the meetings will be held on the first Monday. (Our usual meeting place, the Community Music Center, will be closed for repairs during this time.) The meetings start at 7 PM and are free to the public. Guitar enthusiasts and players of all styles and levels of ability meet with other players and listeners. Membership costs only $10 per calendar year. (Checks may be sent to: Portland Guitar Society, P.O. Box 15253, Portland, OR 97293.)

TOULOUSE ENGELHARDT BEGIN CONCERT TOUR DATES, FALL 2015
We are proud to announce that three of the original members of the legendary “Takoma 7” will be touring together for the first time starting this coming fall! Penned the “Takoma Guitar Legends Tour”, these shows will feature three of the greatest finger style guitar masters Peter Lang, Rick Ruskin and Toulouse Engelhardt. All these guitarists were hand picked by John Fahey along with Leo Kottke and signed to his cult label Takoma Records and their affiliates back in the years.
“It’s not often that three virtuosos of the acoustic guitar share the same stage in a single evening’s performance, but now that has become a reality!” says Steve Beat who is coordinating and promoting this national tour.

Hi All
Does anyone know who replaced Gibson for Everly Brothers Guitars? I believe they were manufactured in the Portland, Oregon area.
Thanks so much
SV
Yip Robert Steinegger portland oregon. he made the first 2 guitars used on the Everly Brothers reunion concert 1983. these guitars are based on the Gibson Everly BROTHERS. BUT BETTER. they wear designed by Phil Everly AND robert. They had a deeper body and the contours are a bit different. not as pinch in in the middle.

does anyone know where in portland i can get my guitar upgraded i havn’t been able to find a place
I live in the Seattle area and will be in Portland this weekend. Our local music store owner said she’d heard there was somewhere in Portland that is an amazing place to find a guitar (she may have meant used) – good enough prices and selection that it’s worth a trip. Anyone have an idea of what she may have meant? Specifically, I’m hoping to find a Big Baby Taylor in great condition. Actually, I don’t even care if it’s scratched, as long as it plays beautifully.
Thanks
Looking for the best shop/person/tech to do custom mods on my Les Paul, bass, and other guitars.
Soes anyone know who does the best quality work of this kind in Portland?
Thanks,
John
Anyone know if there are any shops where I might be able to find an 8-course lute, new or used? Any luthiers in town I could contact for a lute?
I’m just getting started on the instrument (I don’t play guitar), and hoped to find see an instrument before buying, rather than buying sight unseen.
Thanks in advance.
Our small Portland-based architectural firm is holding an Open House on November 17th and would like to find a guitarist to play background music from 4PM until around 7PM for that one-day event. We are able to pay only a small amount for your time, but you’re welcome to partake of the hors d’ouvres and get a little exposure.
Are you available? Can you send us a sample of your music? Please respond by replying to [email protected]
Thanks in advance. ~ Christi

Do you know anyone who has a used Classical guitars available currently. . Please eamil me asap . Also if you have any other leads I would appreciate it.Thanks-Phillip Lester (360)573-4119.
I always thought the classic guitar was an invention of Europe, however, recently a friend bought one in Shanghai for $100 Australian Dollars.
It is beautiful and 4 string. Could it be that the guitar started in China. Do you have any information on the history. Thanks in advance for your help. Grant Niver
You can read more about the history of the guitar at my website http://www.guitarhistory.us. I have a whole essay about the lineage of the guitar. I hope it helps you out!
