        1. Re: how to adjust intonation on a floydrose tremelo?
          Jerry King

Setting the intonation on a floating bridge is a difficult task to accomplish, however it is not impossible even though some people might beg to differ.Setting a strings intonation simply means that the string is in tune all the way up the neck. When a string has proper intonation,it’s center(measured from the nut to the bridge saddle)will be directly over the 12th.fret.You will need a guitar tuner to accomplish this task, preferably a digital tuner, but an analog tuner will suffice. What you need to do is finger an "A" note(5th.fret)on the6th.string("E"string).Setting the tuner to the "A"pitch, note wether the needle or digital reading is flat(just below the "A")or if it is sharp(just above the "A").NOW if it was flat, you will need to shorten the distance between the bridge & thr 12th.fret by loosening the saddle & moving it forward just slightley. Now lock it down & check it again with the tuner. If the string showed sharp instead of flat, you would increase the distance between the saddle & the 12th.fret by moving the saddle backwards just a micron & checking it with the tuner. You will need to perform this proceedure on all 6 strings. Then, since a Floydrose is a floating, you will have to start back at the low "E" string(6th.string)and check it again, probably having to adjust it and tweek it on each string untill the bridge stablizes.Unless you are really handy at making repairs yourself,i’d have a professional set the intonation on a Floydrose. It will be an agravating job even for him/her.

      1. Re: Problem tuning
        Jerry King

If you are having trouble keeping your guitar in tune when you use your tremolo bridge,I have a few suggestions that will help.First, start by gently pulling(stretching)each string untill the string resists the tension being applied. This will keep the strings from stretching when you use your tremolo. It is best to do this when you put new strings on your guitar.Next, try to keep the number of wraps around the tuning posts to nomore than three wraps. This is an area of high friction and slippage.Last, try "lubricating" the nut and saddles with graphite from a pencil.Graphite is a fantastic lubricant that will allow the strings to glide over any friction points and return without catching anywhere.

      2. Re: Problem tuning
        Jerry King

When using a standard non-locking tremolo type bridge, you must stretch your strings by hand, preferably when you put new strings on the guitar.Start by gently lifting the low "E" string untill it resists the tension you are applying to the string.Repeat this proceedure on the other 5 strings being carefull with the lighter unwound strings. This will alieviate any string stretching when you use your trem. You might also want to keep the number of wraps around your tuning posts to three or less. This is a major point of friction when using a tremolo & keeping the wraps to a minimum will keep the string from slipping around the posts. One last suggestion, you might want to "lubricate" the nut and saddles with graphite from a pencile.Just crush it up and apply it to the nut and saddles.this will help alieviate any friction at these points.

  3. Does anyone know how do wire a Gibson P-100 pickup into a strat (ie.with two other single coils). Should it be wired to directly replace the previous single coil?

          Henry

I hope so. I just bought one and it will be here on 6/11. I am in a Phish cover band called Tartar. You can check us out at http://www.tartarband.com. So far I think my tone is pretty close to his. I use a whammy pedal, 2 tubescreamers, Bad Horsie wah, an ISP Noise Decimator, and a Boomerang. All that goes through a Fender Cyber Twin. My current guitar is a Gibson Smartwood.

I have been trying to find info on schaller whammy bars for the last half hour on the net. So far this is totally useless, though for the uninformed, great advertising. Are you familar with Hemmingway’s winter fool? UnLike the old style salespeople, don’t assume your customers are uninformed. I will continue looking and will buy the product which provides me with information, not rhetoric.
