  1. my GTX bass
    fantozzi

so one day, about 2 years ago i walk into my friendly neighborhood MusicGoRound store, looking for a new bass guitar. Well I find this GTX 4 string bass guitar. Never heard of it before, yet it looks pretty killer. The only markings on it are the painted on letters "GTX" that have now almost completely worn off due to heavy use. Well I thought it sounded pretty killer as well so I bought it for about $150. I play in a punk band and I use a lot of slapping and get a great sound out of it, yet i need a more powerful amp. I have to say i have been fairly impressed with it for the price i bought it for. I still use it although the knobs are starting to frizz out on me, but when i get it just right it sounds great. Extremely durable, ive rough housed this thing day in and day out.. dented the body.. dropped it while playing upside down from a wire during a show… basically its been through hell and back and it still plays like it did when i first bought it. Yet I have no idea what model it is cause it has no markings…
If anyone has any clue where I can find the model number or any kind of info other than the worn off gtx logo, that would be great!

  2. What's the going rate?

I’ve got a gtx 36. At least I think it’s a 36. It’s a les paul type, but it doesn’t have trapezoid style inlays, just dots. Anyway, the guitar sounds just like a les paul. If you play it through a good amp, it’s an awesome rhythm guitar. Sounds just like angus young. My parents got it from a pawn shop for like $175 almost 10 years ago. But it looks like people actually like these things. My roommate uses it in his reggae band all the damn time, so he wants to just buy it from me. How much should I make him pay me? Thanks.

I had a GTX 22 and a 33. The 22 was electric blue and the 33 was sunburst and I absolutely loved both of them. I didn’t get them honestly. I broke into my favorite guitar store”Jimmy’s music center” and stole them along with a bunch of others. Had a Steve Vai Ibanez with the cut out and the green vine running up the neck. I loved them GTXs. I did the right thing and turned them back in. Anyone know where I would be able to get these 2 models? I would greatly appreciate any help

I have one too, I picked it up for about $100 about 4 years ago. The stock pickups suck on it, no output whatsoever. The KMD trem with the rollers on it is completely ingenious. I just recently redug my GTX up and got it up and going again, I took the bridge poles out and have the trem sitting against the body and the action is fantastic! Ive never played a guitar with action this great in my 10 years of playing.

      David

I had once owned a GTX bass that I found in a pawn shop for about 175 bucks back about 10 years ago. It was a beautifully crafted guitar. I knew it was from an era that no longer existed. It sounded better than most mass produced bass guitars from the current time, and at a price much less than what one would expect to pay. The finish was unique to say the least and the hardware was of the highest quality. Grover tuners and a Ghotto bridge followed up by EMG soap bar pickups. In short, This was by far one of my favorite guitars to own and play to this day, second only to my newly acquired second hand ESP LTD B-2005 that I found on Ebay. I would recommended a GTX guitar to anyone who truly loves guitars for what they are. Not simply an instrument, but a work of art in itself.

: My son is wanting an electric guitar for Christmas. We found one he loves but were told it was not a popular brand anymore so we were wondering how hard it would be to replace parts for it. It is used for $149.00. We were told it was a copy of Lance Brogman’s guitar. Could you give me insight on this since it has no warranty. My son has fallen in love with it the neck fits his hand perfectly. Any information would be appreciated. My son is afraid it will be gone before we find out anything. Thanks for your time. Max

i bought a gtx 200 from a friend for $180. it was old and the insides were all messed, up but i got someone to work on it and it plays like a dream. for the money this is one of the best guitars available.

      1. I have a GTX-200 24 fret shreding machine in a dark natural wood tone. Super neck and pickups rock as well. Very rare I believe. I love it. I have 13 Guitars and this one still recieves it”s fare share of play time. This GTX series are / were Kaman Music Corp. / Ovation designed and produced not junk.

    4. Re: GTX Guitar
      John

well your son has good taste. I have 2 GTXs and love the feel. They are pretty cheap as far as quality but as far as parts………any parts will bolt on, so dont worry. Also look on Ebay for another and buy it for parts.
They really are good sounding and feeling guitars to me.
Mine are rainbow crackle finish with reverse headstock. Both are mirror images of each other. Rare paint scheme and was so happy to be able to pick up the second one. Will be happy to email a picture of it if you like.
      Good luck

I have a GTX hollow body. It has a nice clean sound and distorts very well for a hollow body. They are good looking guitars and cheap

    5. Re: GTX Guitar
      rich

I don’t want to see you get ripped off, but depending on the type of guitar a basic gtx is pretty cheap. i have one myself that is pretty much worthless. for $150 you can get your son a much better guitar. most starting guitarists start with a Fender Squier guitar you can find for about 160 brand new. Your son might like it a lot now, but in a short time he will regret he has it. if you have any more questions e mail me

        JOE

IF WE ARE TALKING ABOUT SOLID BODY ELECTRIC GUITARS HERE, THEN I’LL BE PROUD TO SAY I HAVE A GTX AND LOVE IT. IT HAS GOOD PICKUPS, A SOLID BODY STRONG ENOUGH FOR EMPTYING A BAR IN A HURRY, AND RELIABLE ELECTRICS. THE NECK, TOO, FITS ME VERY WELL….NOT UNLIKE MY FENDER JAGUAR AND IMPALA. THE CURVE IN THE BACK OF THE NECK HAS A LITTLE (ACCIDENTAL( NICK IN IT, AND I USE THAT FOR "HOME" IN MY THIRD FRET…KINDA A CHEATING WAY….BUT IT FEELS RIGHT TO ME. THE HEAD LOCKS WORK VERY WELL, AND THE WHAMMY BAR IS CAPABLE OF NOT LOSING TUNE EVERY TIME I WHANG IT..SO MUCH FOR THE THOUGHT THAT AN INEXPENSIVE GUITAR IS SO MUCH JUNK..THIS ONE REALLY HAS ENOUGH QUALITY IN IT TO MAKE IT A REAL PLEASURE TO PLAY. I USE .006" STRINGS…REALLY SLINKY AND SILKY SMOOTH. THE HUMBUCKER STYLE PICKUP HAS A LOT OF SIZZLE AND THE OTHER PICKUPS ARE SUFFICIENT FOR MOST PLAYERS TOO. HOOK IT UP THE A DECENT AMP TO GET ALL THE TONAL QUALITY OUT OF IT..THE BODY HAS A GOOD DEPTH AND RESONANCE….PLAY WITH IT AND ENJOY IT..I’VE HAD MINE 9 YEARS AND STILL AM NOT TIRED OF IT. IT PLAYS IN ROTATION WITH MY GIBSON, FENDERS, AND EPIPHONE.

        Steve Brizendine

      2. GTX 20 Strat copy guitar
        steve mason

I took a GTX 20 guitar in on trade for an el~cheapo off brand bass guitar I found in a thrift store for 75 bucks.
It is a Stratocaster copy. I had to replace the tone and volume switches and jack imput and a new set of 10 gauge strings, and now I love this guitar. It had some goofy, ugly black knobs on the white pic guard and those were replaced with Fender style white knobs also. I have two Fender Stratocasters that I paid almost $900.00 each, and I would rather play the GTX. It is heaver than the Fenders and sounds every bit as good if not better. Someone has painted it black with a nice paint job and it looks very good after a good clean up. It is an outstanding guitar and I am very, very happy with it!!!

      3. GTX GR35-2 ES335 Copy
        Steve Leek

This guitar grabbed my attention because of its great neck profile and amazing pickups. I later learned that it was a Kaman product and the neck certainly shows an Ovation influence–slim, with nicely finished frets. Is anyone familiar with this guitar? The headstock bore a large GTX logo in huge letters. It bothered the hell out of me because it reminded me of Automotive logos. The binding was an aged 5 ply around the body, dot neck inlays and no binding on the headstock. I’m a guitar tech an am currently making a fake Gibson out of it. It will be my guitar and I’m not trying to pass it off on someone. I just had to get rid of that Logo! Buzz me if you have one of these or know anything about it!

        fndrbndr

I found mine like 16 years ago for $200, BEST $200 iv’e ever spent on my music, ive spent much, much more on “name” guitars n i can truely say that this guitar is no disappointment. i have one of the rare hand painted “snake” guitars and in all the time ive had it, its never failed me, ever, the tone is rich n dark, or bright n funky, then again i think someone changed the neck pick-up to a hot rail, allthough i have not found any manuals to confirm the “stock” options, i am currently looking to add any of the GTX guitars to my stable 🙂

        1. I have a GTX 200 guitar with a Seymour Duncan Bridge pickup
          Steve brizendine

I have a GTX 200 electric guitar a super Strat has a Seymour Duncan Bridge pickup in it add to stock single coils in it the guitar is in Immaculate shape it’s one of the older super strats only made one year if you are interested in it you can call me at 269-419-1752 my name is Steve I live in Battle Creek Michigan

      6. I have a GTX i got in a trade. I gotta say, the owner did NOT take care of it. But i hooked it to my stack and holy shit. The pickups sound WAY better than the ones in my Jackson. And they say Jackson is popular… I think its just looks to be honest of why they’re popular lol….

      7. gtx guitar
        jesus265

When I first bought an electric guitar I though it was a fender stratocaster but when I look at the headstock and it said gtx20. I was ashamed about the body it hadded no pickguard pickup switcher and no knobs. the guitar was amazing of the body and it cost me 45 dollars wow. I bought it and hook it up with some knobs a pickguard and a new pickup switcher and when I hook it up on the amp it was like I was playing the guitar from the gods. Gtx company its really good not bad for a stratocaster its awsome thank god for this guitar:)

        1. GTX20 Guitar
          steve mason

I also have a GTX20 and love the guitar. I had to do some clean up and replace a few tone and volume switches and knobs, but this made a fantastic guitar. Someone has put a very nice black paint job on it over a blue~turquoise color, but did a very nice and glossy job. I have to say I do like it a bit better than my two real Fender Stratocasters!

      8. I got a GTX bass for Christmas…my friend that gave it to me thinking I might be able to spend some time and pick it up. Well, I’m not musically inclined so don’t see it happening. Anyway, I know NOTHING about guitars so trying to find someone in town to give me an appraisel of what it’s worth. So far, no one knows. My wife plays the guitar, so, if possible, I’d like to trade this one for either a 12 string acoustic or 6 string electric. Any advice?

      9. GTX Avenger
        Eggert Sigurdsson

I have a GTX Avenger, black with white pick guard. I love this guitar. It’s a beautifully crafted, great sounding,,,,,and all in all a high quality guitar.
        I have other guitars:
ESP Horison NT – Gadow Costum Setneck – Tanglewood TSB 58 MWR – Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top – Dean Strat Orange Flame Top – 1987 Washburn G3-V,,,,,,,and ,,,,,,,and,,,,,,,,,,,
The GTX – Avenger is no better and no worse then any of the other guitars,,,,,it’s different,,,,it’s the guitar I will never sell.
English is not my native languitch so my spelling may be off,,,sorry 🙂
