You have to know this by now. It's been quite some time. Los Lobos did a version of this song. I have it on "Just Another Band From East L.A." It's the song I play that calms my kid down.

I just bought a tele with a b-bender.
Where can I find some resources to learn licks
for this tool? e.g. I know Parson's from the Byrds
is probably a good place to start - any suggestion
for recordings, learning instructions, etc?

Conklin Guitars...good quality?
[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]
Has anyone heard any reviews on Conklin Guitars?
I am considering buying something like "The Extreme 8" (8-string with
midi pickup), and it's gonna cost me about $6000. It's totally
customizable, including what kind of woods you want, how many frets, if
you want fanned frets, how many strings, the scale-length, etc, etc,
etc. Problem is, I can't play it before I buy it, cuz they have to make
it for me. I would feel a lot more comfortable hearing from others who
may have purchased a Conklin and are pleased/displeased. If nobody has
a Conklin, has anyone heard ANYTHING about them?
If you haven't even heard of Conklin guitars, go here:

: Hey Daniel,
: I resently played a Conklin 7string bass and very pleased. I would have purchased it but I'm waiting for a 6string. I think that the quality that they put into their instrument is very high and I will be buying one soon myself. I hope this will help you in your dicision.

I play a 7string Conklin Bass, for the past 8 years, I've been playing for 30 years and so far it is the best bass I've ever had.

conklin good?
I have a Conklin 8 string, and am extremely happy with it. I do endorse Conklins, and have found that the company will cater to your needs, no matter how incredible they may be. To me , they are the ultimate guitar company because if you can think it, they can build it. I have 8-string serial no. 1, and I've had it since 1994. Buy one!: Has anyone heard any reviews on Conklin Guitars?

Re: Conklin Guitars...good quality?
I own a 7-string Conklin bass, and I enjoy mine every much. I thump, slap and tap with just as I do a 5-string, still there are several differences. The two elements I enjoy the most are the fact that I don't have "roam" all over the neck, and I get a cleaner or glassier sound when tapping and slapping. I get so much attention because of my Conklin -- especially from other bass players, both young and old.
I believe that, no matter your talent level, when you are on stage, it's your appearance that is noticed. When auditioning for working a band, it's your ability to keep things simple and to stay in the pocket AND the type of gear you have -- "bargain basement" gear will often keep you in the basement.
Alot of times, you are rated by your equipment. And between you and me, the "good stuff" is alot easier to work with. Conklin makes quality guitars and basses to YOUR specifications, you get the sound you are looking for. No matter how well you play, as long as stay in the pocket and maintain the groove, with a Conklin, you are bad man! Good luck with your Conklin. As for me, my next Conklin will be a 9-string.

Re: Conklin Guitars...good quality?
I actually just bought a Conklin 7 string and it has really good sound. Functionally it's sweet as hell and the craftmanship is exceptional. Now, I didn't spend as much as your thinking about spending mine was only 2k. Good luck!
Re: Conklin Guitars...good quality?
yes, i have a conklin. i have had nothing but problems
with it. the frets stick out the edge of the fingerboard. and this new guy sucks at electronics.
noise beyond belief.
Re: Conklin Guitars...good quality?
I own two Conklin instruments - a 4-string bass and a 7-string bass. The workmanship and quality are exceptional, and the electronics kick a**. I've had numerous bass players envy me for these axes. I've toured the Conklin shop and spoken at length with Bill Conklin - he's one of the most gracious, hospitable and ethical guys in the business.
Gibson Epiphone Pick-Ups
[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]
Hi,
I bought a new Gibson Epiphone last year and haven't really been happy
with the sound I'm getting from it. I like the warm, deep sound from Gibsons
but I don't want to lose any top end sound. Can anyone suggest some pickups
that will give me the sound I'm looking for: Low end grunt, with the Fender
twang top end .
Thanks for your help!

Re: Gibson Epiphone Pick-Ups
I bought a Gibson Epiphone two weeks ago. I wonder if it was too expensive or too cheap. It costed 278 (2500 swedish crones) dollars. Please mail me.
Re: Takamine...need help!
: My Tak. is thirteen years old, and I noticed a slight belling. I checked all the bracing and found nothing wrong. I went to a guitar shop with the guitar and the salesman said he was concerned. However another shop said not to worry. Whom should I believe? Is bellying a normal part of an aging guitar? It still plays great.
"Bellying" is pretty normal for a flat top. If your intonation and action aren't affected, don't worry about it.
If it's completely whacked out, your luthier can probably reform it, but it won't be cheap.
Cheers
TOKAI GUITARS

Does anybody know how to date Tokai guitars ?
I own a Tokai telecaster and would like to find out more about it.
If anyone knows of a site that deals with Tokai would you be so kind
and e-mail the address to me ?
Thanks

Re: TOKAI GUITARS
: I have a Tokai Love Rock. It just looked exactly the same with Gary Moore's '59 Les Paul (not the Peter Green one). It is the main reason that I bought it. The price was very funny. BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE HELL !!! MUCH BETTER THAN MOST LES PAULS I'VE SEEN...
: What is this guitar, man?
The love rock model is the best made guitar i have ever had my hands on. Im not real familiar with the history of Tokai guitars but I do know that my Tokai gold top les paul stands alone. I dont like to call it a copy because a copy should be of a lesser standerd than the original and this is not the case
Re: TOKAI GUITARS

I would like to get hold of any old Tokai literature ( I have 2 Breezysound telecasters) and I am looking to buy a Tokai "Les Paul"

Re: TOKAI GUITARS
I have a Tokai telecaster except they just call it a "BREEZYSOUND". It has the Tokai name
on the headstock except it is written in the same style of writing that Fender use. I heard
a rumour that they were sued and had to remove this style of logo. How many got through
their production with the Fender style logo?. Can anyone help?.
Cheers,
Jim

Re: TOKAI GUITARS
I Was Just playing my Loverock while reading your comments I love my tokai.
Too bad they are so hard to find.
I just compared my loverock heads up to a new gary moore lp and saved myself $2000.00 bucks.
See ya.
Re: TOKAI GUITARS
I'm not commenting on previous posts - just adding my own input.
I've got a Tokai Goldstar Strat, and it's a very nice guitar - but I've always had a problem with the "tremolo" arm putting the guitar out of tune.
So rather than buying a new guitar, I prefer to customise the guitar, making it more "special" and unique (which is apparently a common practice).
Cheers,
Robin.
PS My tokai must be quite old now ... I got it in the 80's second-hand.
Re: TOKAI GUITARS
I am looking for more information on the history of Tokai Instruments.
I played strats and tellys in the 70s. I now use Tokai basses. You can not beat them. Tokai really captures the Fender (vintage) bass.
