Re: Vox Guitar Identification
Not much info, in fact I have the same guitar and have found info sparse. Nearest i can find is that they were built in the Far East between 1982 and 1985.
http://www.voxamps.co.uk/vintage/story/chapter3.htm
is the only mention I've found. There's a review for a standard 24 on www.harmony-central.com
That's it! If you've turned up anything else let me know! Its a great piece of wood!

Re: GUITAR IDENTIFICATION
I refinished an acoustic guitar for a friend. It was 3/4size guitar. It had f-style sound holes. It looked like the wood was stained to give it a flamed look to the top, seemed to be laminated wood. Painted design on the fretboard at 3rd, fifth, ect,.Steel string. Had a model number p-38 inside, also serial number partially hidden by brace. No manufacture name. Looked to be at least 60 years old. Any help?

Guitar ident. 12 string archtop? Plz help!
I just aquired a descent little axe, but it has no brand name, no cerial, and no markings.
Shes a 12 string archtop (wierd enuf eh?) Medium good condition (1980's maybe?) red-orange sunburst with uneven double cutaway (strat-like, but not nearly as accented)two moderately good sounding humbuckers,(with gold tinfoil pres.) white plastic binding and a floating dove-tail shaped pickguard.
heres the kickers,
The volume and tone knobs (2) have the letters "T" and "V" on them. (from audience vantage, looks like "T-V") And the HEADSTOCK looks kinda like a channel-changer with the end bitten off in a crescent moon shape (lower point jutts out further)
Dont think shes worth much, but wondering if shes worth much restoration.
Please?
Thanks,

Re: Guitar ident. 12 string archtop? Plz help!
The finish sounds like a Japanese Kawai, though the cutaways sound more like a copy of a Les Paul Signature (which was a short-lived 1970s Gibson model based on the ES-335 -- Gibson's own electric 12 was a thin archtop, another ES-335 variant, and what you've got there might be a copy of that). Two sources that could probably help you out, especially if you've got a scanned-in snapshot to send online, are Experienced Instruments in Chicago (experiencedinstruments.com) and Subway Guitars in California (do a search on "fatdawg," the proprietor's nickname). Good luck with your investigation. (By the way, I've asked a luthier friend of mine to put a 1970 Epiphone acoustic 12-string neck on a 1964 Zimgar jazzbox body to make a single-cutaway archtop electric 12 -- someone may have done a similar experiment. Sounds intriguing anyway!)

Tuning a 12 string guitar?
[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]
How are the strings on a 12-string tuned? I know about the standard tuning of the phat strings, but the doubled ones are giving me some trouble. I can't remember where I saw the last chart put out telling which strings were tuned to what and the intervals between the strings and their doubles. Any help would be great.

The E, A, D, & G strings (The thin ones) are tuned 1 octave higher than the heavier string that they're next to. The B & high E strings are tuned the same as the string they're next to. Hope this helps.

Re: Tuning a 12 string guitar?
Wayne, I am not sure how to make sure one string is an octave higher?? Do I just tune the thin strings according to the electronic tuner? Then what do I do with the tuning of the heavy strings? You can tell I'm having a really hard time. thanks bob

Re: Tuning a 12 string guitar?
First before you even tune your 12 string you need to look at what strings your using. Most 12 strings are strung with light gage strings,I highly recomend a medium gage .052-.012 One other adjustment is the A octave string (thinner one)it is a solid string, you need to buy one separate A string(being wound). As the set will contain a solid string and it most always rings. Now when you tune your guitar with these strings on you need to always tune one note lower than the paticular tuning you want to use. Example: for a standard tuning e E a A d'd g'g b b e' e' you should tune to d D g G c'c f'f a a d' d'
Now if you decide to use any alternate type tuning keep this in mind as it will apply to all alternate tunings. One more example,Open C:
c C g G c'c g'g c c e' e'
should be b B f F b'b f'f b b d' d'
I hope this helps and good luck as the 12 string is a great instrument to learn to play!! V PEACE I

Drilling pearloid

Does anyone know how easy pearloid is to drill through.
I am planning to add an extra pot but I am worried
about cracking the stratch plate. Any help would be
appreciated.

Be aware with drilling, I had several nervous breakdowns doing it. I would recommend using a dremel router, after making a little hole with a hand driven drill, enlarge it with a dremel router to the appropiate size. Pearloid or celluloid tends to crack very easy when drilled with a
usual 8 or 10 mm drill.

Hello!
I just bought a weird "audition" guitar...it's made out of plywood and looks really old, does anyone know anymore about these guitars??
And I'm trying to get the neck off it, except I can't get the last screw out without the screwdriver slipping! I don't want to thread it!

cheers
Re: Weird Audition guitar...and how can I get a NECK OFF??
: :Well russel, I have to tell you, these guitars were pretty cool back in the day.
: :They originated in Japan back in the late 50's and then the rights were given to Wollworths, a multi-stuff store like walmart. It was kind of like how Sears made the Silvertone guitars.
: :For some reason though, all of the Audition guitars with wireing made back in the 60's just sounded bad when the 80's struck.
